I never really saw much of that show; I think I watched a segment or a few on Youtube once, but I never watched it proper. I always wondered if I should...

His fingers look especially nubby, though. Probably because they're squared off at the ends. Nothing says Astro Boy like massive, chubby hands and forearms, though... idk why; in the manga he was usually drawn fairly proportionately, if a little chunky in spots. Just a little bit. It got exaggerated in the 60's series, but it carried to all his limbs, not just the forearms. His upper arms were still pretty chunky, too. I remember Cobalt having forearms disproportionate to his upper arms... he was a gangly, awkward sort of thing, the poor creature...

He tried to draw Atom looking a bit older, to make him seem "cooler", at least in his own opinion. But most people liked him littler, and so Tezuka continued to draw him smaller and smaller, going past the point of where he started. After a point, Atom was just a chubby lil nub. :o Not that I'm complaining at all; he was cute! But a taller Atom isn't so bad. I don't think I thought that way at first; idk what swayed me to think otherwise, but now, I'm not bothered by it, depending on how it's handled.

Come to think of it, the 2003 series had him with very chubby arms and limbs... maybe that's why I associate such features as belonging to him. He wasn't quite as exaggerated in the previous series, as I said (with the exception of the exaggerated and simplified 60's anime, and maybe parts of the manga, the smaller he got). This is also the series I remember from my own childhood, regardless of how little I likely actually saw or maybe even liked of the series. Also, in the 2003 series, he was actually taller than in previous generations, but still gave off the impression of being quite small and young. Maybe because everything about him was smooth and rounded (save his spikes, which even then were streamlined to be curved on one side into a taper at the tip)...

But yeah, depending, I can actually like an older-looking Atom. I like the "Atom Returns" arc version of him (which I think I may have initially been put off by him, for the same reason I think I kind of like him now: his eyebrows :p weird, huh?).

At first, he looks a little reminiscent of the movie. I was also afraid he would be sassy, but he could just be showing off a little. Even still, I got excited we have a better quality picture! :D

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Tezuka productions wouldn't let anything really bad happen to Astro.

They let the movie happen. :T Sure, it wasn't terrible, and plenty of the people in the fandom today actually liked it and are here because of it (and so am I, in a way); but it was mediocre at best. I didn't like it at first. Actually took a few tries out of boredom to get attached to the thing...

This is yet another original take on the series- even more so, from my understanding. Even the movie echoed the past in a tangible way. We don't know yet about this one.

I'm not sure he was ever known to show off very much... if he ever did, it was very situational-dependent. The movie incarnation might've bragged a little, though...

I still would like a larger image, if only for icon and avatar purposes. :D But it's good that we can get a clearer glimpse of our new protag.

Heh, yeah. I think the movie's only problem was that it wasn't allowed to develop long enough. Having three directors with their own style come in and out of the project can do that. So the movie had a lot of good ideas but struggled to find its identity.

Hopefully the new series whatever it does, finds its identity and embraces it. Like, Little Astro Boy is very different from previous versions but is still good and fun because it knew what it was and embraced that. Hoping the new series can do the same.

Perhaps Astro is a bit of a showoff in this version but grows out of it. That would be fascinating to see.

I'm not entirely sure that he would even understand the concept. Maybe he would seem like he was, but really be expounding facts about the nature of his existence. I mean, he is technically superior. And him explaining his abilities, or even using them a lot, might rub humans the wrong way.

I wasn't a terribly big fan of what little I actually managed to see of LAB. The voicework was obnoxious. I wonder why kid's shows so often fall victim to that... I guess the character design was alright, from what I can remember (and what little I actually saw). I did rather like to poke fun at it, though, so there's that. Plus, Astro was hilariously uncouth, to term it politely.

This series already seems to know what it wants to be when it comes to art direction, provided that they don't change too much of anything. I like what I've seen so far, although I wish that the trailer gave us more insight as to what Astro himself is like as a character; I'm also curious as to the nature of the "Atlas" character this time around. That one would be an easy one to go wrong (not the least because of if it's anything like the 80's Atlas, then I'll probably hate it on principle).

I also agree, stories that have the protagonist grow and change as the series progress are the kinds that I am more drawn to and enjoy more. Static characters although consistent and certainly can be entertaining and meaningful characters can be really boring and one-dimensional after a certain point. As much as I love Atom, he actually doesn't change much in his series beyond obtaining knowledge and general "social skills" - he is pretty much the EXACT same character from the first episode to the last one with some exceptions in the original manga.

I'd like to see him go from being one thing to another or have some sort of clear visible growth take place between the first episode and the final episode - whether it be Atom starting as an egotistical showoff to more reserved and humble or him starting off as overly trusting and optimistic to more cautious and reserved (while still in the range of what we know as being his character).

I think the latter might be more likely, given what we know. He's probably gonna change quite a bit. He can't stay an ignorant, socially awkward robot forever (I mean, lying is one thing, but he apparently doesn't even know how to play).

I do wish we knew what he might be like. It'll be interesting, I'm pretty sure, based on the (very little) information we've been given. He might come off a little like Lieutenant Data, from Star Trek: the Next Generation.

The voice acting in LAB could've been better but I was still amused by the approach. What can I say? I thought it was cute and funny. But then, I'm also amused by Teen Titans Go so maybe I'm not the right person to talk about these sort of things  One thing I would've done differently is probably write in more of Astro Boy's canon characters. More of his friends, more of his enemies, maybe characters from other Tezuka animes, Tezuka has a HUUUUGE library of characters to pick from so I didn't see the point of making new ones.

They are being downright annoyingly hush hush about the whole thing, aren't they?

Yeah, I've heard a lot of flack about Teen Titans GO!... Not that I really cared much for Teen Titans in general. It was okay whenever I deigned to watch it, I guess. I think most of it was on cable for a while, anyway, though, so I never saw most of it. But yeah, I kinda liked the appearance of LAB, if nothing else. Could've done without the rapping, though. :<

Indeed they are! I wonder why... if it's supposed to be ready by this time next year, then surely they at least have something more to show us by now? Or are they seriously gonna wait until February to tell us? When was the date, again...? Gonna have to look...

I greatly enjoyed Teen Titans but I the people who give Go! flack grew up with the original so they feel their childhood has been messed with. I was in High School by the time the original came on so I didn't feel that way. Also, I tend to have a weird sense of humor XD

LAB's rap was weird. XD Liked the dance though.

Maybe they want to wet our appetite. Tease us and make us want it more. XD Or maybe development is going painfully slower for them than they intended. Hence the past delays in trailers and announcements. I dunno.
