Do you guys have any features or suggestions to improve your experience on ABO?
Currently we are discussing the following things to add:
User Titles in correspondence to the amount of posts a user has.
Right now the User Titles are set as: junior member (0-29 posts) member (30-99 posts) and senior member at 100+ posts.
Many other websites have fun things attached to user titles, we are considering adding "minister of science" to one of the top tier level.
Does anyone have any ideas for these user titles (or anything else?)
Yes, we are still aware of the annoying database problem.

We were thinking maybe "Minister of Science" for that level

Let Jeffbert and Astro forever argue about the title since they are the only ones that will be above that level for years!

WARNING: WALL OF TEXT AHEAD
There's currently no option to create a user title for members who've been a member for a certain number of years or who've created a certain number of threads, but I don't think either would be a good option.
In the past, there have been spammers and certain members who've created an absurd amount of threads in a very short period of time, sometimes creating a large amount of threads with little to no substance in them (you might remember certain ones Jeffbert). Thankfully, no current members on the forum do that presently.
As for creating a user title for members who've been a member of the forum for a specific number of years, I think this one could be a good option only in the instance of a member who still logs in several times during a week, but hardly ever posts. However, I don't think it's necessary to do that if a member has only posted, say, 30 times in the last decade. I'd rather distinguish them by number of posts then the number of years they've been a member.
There is, however, an option to create custom user titles regardless of how many posts a member has made. I think this option might be best for certain members of the forum who have stuck around for several years, have been very active during those years, and have created a certain persona of themselves during that time. For instance, we could give Tetsuwan Penguin the user title "Grandpa of ABO" or something similar, though I don't know if he would appreciate that.

With all of that being said, I think the best option is to only create more specific levels for user titles regarding how many posts a member has made. Take a look at how they've divided up the user titles on the other forum I frequently visit:
http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7515
Since that post was made back in 2008, I believe the mods on that forum have made more user titles for members with 7,500+ posts and 10,000+ posts since there's now members with that many posts. We could certainly do that on ABO as well.
We could have levels like on that forum as well, or we could do user title levels (for number of posts) like this:
- 0 (For new members, and members who register but never post at all.)
- 1-29 (For members just getting started and our extremely shy members.)
- 30-49 (This would keep the current "Member" user title in tact in memory of the current set up for user title levels. Obviously, we could choose a different name for it.)
- 50-99 (I think if a member makes at least 50 posts on here, there's a very good chance they'll stick around for a while.)
- 100-499 (100 posts is obviously significant. No distinctions between 100 and 500 because few members reach 100 posts to begin with.)
- 500-999 (Same reason with the previous level. 500 posts is significant, but even fewer members ever make 500 posts.)
- 1,000-1,999 (1,000 posts is an accomplishment. Only 32 members on ABO have ever made 1,000+ posts, so there's no need to make a distinction between 1,000 to 1,999 posts.)
- 2,000-2,999 (As per your suggestion, Jeffbert. We could make levels for each 1,000 posts beyond the 1,000 post mark until the 5,000 post mark is reached.)
- 3,000-3,999 (Only 10 members have ever made 3,000+ posts. Obviously an accomplishment to reach this point.)
- 4,000-4,999 (A grand total of 3 members have gotten to this point. Tetsuwan Penguin and Cybotron will most likely reach this level soon. Again, it's an accomplishment to reach this point.)
- 5,000-9,999 (Very few members will ever get to 5,000 posts, so I don't think there should be a distinction in-between 5,000 posts and 9,999 posts.)
- 10,000+ (No need to separate levels after this. In 12, going on 13 years of this forum existing, only Jeffbert has made this level. Astro Forever will probably get there soon too, but she already has the user title "Administrator". Every other member has less than 5,000 posts currently. Only a handful of members will ever make 10,000 posts within the next few years, so I think this level should be the last one for now.)
This would be similar to the other forum I frequently visit with 12 user title levels, but still unique to ABO with the numerical distinctions. Instead of generic titles like "Newbie" or something similar, we were thinking that the user titles could be more fun with names pertinent to the Astro Boy series. Hence, "Minister of Science" like Ochanomizu. I don't think we should choose a character name specifically like "Astro" or "Uran", but maybe something like "Astro's Disciple" or "Tezuka's Protégé". I think "Newbie" could work for members with 0 posts, but after that, we could choose names relatable to Astro Boy. Also, I would say no names from other Tezuka series since this is an Astro Boy forum.
That's my two cents.

And Jeffbert comes in a close second

Actually I thought someone might have called me (or Dan Navy) Tezuka's

Hello everyone! Behind the scenes, the mods have been coming up with a new user title hierarchy for about a month now. The current user titles are "Junior Member" for 0-29 posts, "Member" for 30-99 posts, and "Senior Member" for 100+ posts. Here is what we have come up with; the user titles we think are the best possibilities are in bold, the user titles in normal text are alternative names we could use, and the usernames we have decided not to use are in italics:
New User Title Hierarchy
Other name suggestions:
Feel free to give your opinions on the new user titles.
EDIT: I suppose I should also mention that each of the new user titles we came up with (with the exception of "Unpowered Robot") all come from Astro Boy. Initially, we were thinking of doing a combination of generic and Astro Boy user title names, but ultimately decided to stick with exclusively Astro Boy related user title names.
As for where each name comes from, here's short explanations for each:
"Unpowered Robot" is a generic user title. It sounds like something that could come from Astro Boy, but technically isn't.
"Kokoro Robot" is a reference to the 2003 series, in which Ochanomizu calls robots with hearts and souls a "kokoro robot".
"Metro City Citizen" is a reference to Metro City from the 2003 series and 2009 movie.
"On a Flight into Space" is a reference to the English lyrics of the 1963 series theme song. The first two lines in the song go "There you go, Astro Boy, On your flight into space." Instead of calling it "On your Flight into Space", we changed it to "On a Flight into Space to make sound a little better for a user title name.
"Beyond the Stars" is a reference to Little Astro Boy's ending theme song, which is entitled "Robot Boy, Beyond the Stars".
"Robot President" is a reference to the manga story which was also adapted into the 1980 series.
"Rocket Ball Champion" is a reference to Episode 2 of the 2003 series.
"Cosmic Ranger" is also a reference to the English lyrics of the 1963 series' theme song. One of the lines near the end of the song goes "Cosmic Ranger, laugh at danger".
"Robot Revolutionary" is a reference to the final few episodes in the 2003 series.
"Tezuka's Protégé" is self-explanatory. If you've made it to 5,000 posts, you might make yourself look like a protégé of Tezuka!
"Minister of Science" is a reference to Ochanomizu and Tenma, who both held the position at one point or another.
