Sony has not been tainted that much I was never screwed by this scandal one bit so I don't really care.
Well it is all about Blu Ray the processors do not really cost that much and if no one uses them BIG DEAL! Who cares it is all about gameplay and story alone usualy. Blu Ray is the thing that makes it expensive but I for see Blu Ray winning my self.
They will all probably win in the end but if Halo stops getting sequels like they said then next time around we will not see an X Box 720 that is going to win.

I'm just going to say... I really don't care because I'll probably end up owning them all sometime in the future XD I mean, it used to be the XBox, Gamecube, and PS2 thing... We those within a year after they came out XD Well... This sounds crazy to most of you (maybe) I don't really play on them that much to define a favorite. Then yet the games I usually end up liking are made for every platform. (that's a coincidence though)

I guess that some people can have some grudge toward Sony for putting too many co-processors with such a high price.

I think they're crazy. Developers had enough trouble with the complexity of the PS2 Emotion Engine. Compare that to the X-Box 360, which is basically just a standardised custom PC (if you'll excuse the oxymoron) and I know which one I'd rather code for.

fafner wrote:However, I think that the PS3 is hated for another reason. Since last year, Sony have made themselves an extremely bad reputation with the rootkit scandal.

For sure. What they did was bad enough, their response made it even worse.
I think it's more than that though. Sony hardware has really gone downhill. It's like they're resting on their reputation from the early 90s when they made really high quality stuff.
Also, a lot of their hardware is hard to modify and they push proprietary technologies (like the minidisc range, the memory stick range, ATRAC, OMG, VPT, Universal Media Discs, Video8, Betamax, HiFD discs, MMCD discs, Sony Dynamic Digital Sound, MpegMovieVX, the list goes on) which force you to use Sony or Sony-licenced products.

It is not that hard to program on the PS3 it is Linux, and Linux has more features and once you get used to it. It can be fun just ask anyone from Square Enix dude.

I am a GNU/Linux developper, and I can tell you that I have no idea how to use 7 co-processors  I am always basing my programs on the one-thread design, knowing that a few tasks may need extra threads (network management to name one). Game specialists sometimes use another one for physics (Havok in Oblivion). I have no idea how to use 7 extra tasks, be it GNU/Linux, a modified Linux kernel, or a proprietary system. It is not even sure that Linux will be used at all as the main system.

Trust me it will be it was in the PS2 and is in the PSP. As for 7 and a main does it matter? If someone decides not to use the other 7 than no big deal right? The point is they are there if you need them, if some crazy developer can find out how to make a game that uses all 7 and the main than good for him.
EDIT: If anything it will be either FFXIII or FF Versus XIII or FFXIV or FFXV either one those guys can figure it out dude trust me MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I was aware of a separate package comprising GNU/Linux. Even though it doesn't mean the main system doesn't use a Linux kernel, I doubt it.
For the PSP, I know nothing (but didn't find anything either).

Not to make fun of what you said, let's say I create a new killer console: a 256-processors beast that will crush all other consoles... if someone ever find out how to make use of each of them :w00t: Seriously, while I do agree that it may be possible to use all of the 7 processors, I think that putting them in the only hope that someone will figure out how to make use of them seems strange ;)
