Goddash it. I hope the movie is Ok quality-wise, though. Like Transformers, it wasn't exactly true to the original but still a good movie.

Also i am disappointed to have read on the movie forums that they have made Tenma a 'family man' instead of the intelligent depressing, alcoholic strict, crazy, robot suppority - theory thinking professor.

and the Plot story of Astro confronting has father has been removed from each movie websites

I forget where or when but was established long ago that the story has been modified a little so that Tenma doesn't seem like such a jerk for abandoning Astro. The audience is meant to feel sympathy for him in this version.

If there's something else you're reading I'd really like to see the source so I can read it too, if you don't mind.

Is that so? where did you find this the wikipedia article on the movie seems to have its changed its story line where its only about Astro being born.

Edit: as for where i read the information if you wish i could send you a pm with a note but it was on IMBG/IBG ugh! movie forums about Astro.

Personally I don't think they need to change the story for anyone to feel sorry for him. Half of the oppinions I see of Tenma are of someone feeling sorry for him... at least in the end.To replace that part of his character could be a tragic mistake. It just wouldn't be Astroboy if Astro and Tenma never had arguments and always got alone with each other.

I'd love to get more information from an official source.

Also, commenting on the Japanese trailer I watched (Thanks Ninjatron for the link on your blog) I can easily see that for Japan it isn't all about action, there is more to it than that. It'll be interesting to see the differences between the two versions (mainly the way they are advertised) as the movie gets closer.
And if you do watch it, I think I would be correct in saying it is the voice actor for Astro that says (Translated) "My Name is Atom"

I don't mind if Tenma gets a little "toned down" in the movie. (Some of the stuff he did in the manga would probably be slightly unsettling for American audiences, like beating Astro with a measuring stick, and stalking him later on.) I've had faith in this movie for almost two years, and I'm not going to give up at this point.

but no offence to imagi...i think its going to be a good moive but...if they "toned down" tenma...they'er not following tezuka's stroy...i mean if they are doing this moive in his honner wouldn't they wanna follow the ''origonal" stroy...?

From an interview with David Bowers on Sci-Fi Wire last summer, coming out of Imagi's presence at Anime Expo. Here's the quote.

"A guy like Nicolas Cage, he's a big comic-book fan anyway, as everybody knows, but he does like Astro Boy," Bowers said in an interview at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 5. "He's a big fan of Astro Boy. He brings such a lot to the role."

In the new film, Cage provides the voice of Dr. Tenma, a scientist who loses his son and creates a robot, Astro Boy (voiced by Freddie Highmore), to replace him. In the original 1950s manga and subsequent 1960s anime TV series, Astro Boy is rejected by his creator and left to fend for himself in the world. Bowers said that his version will be a bit lighter in tone and more forgiving of Dr. Tenma's actions.

"We have a slightly more sympathetic look at Dr. Tenma in this movie," he said. "[Cage has] given a wonderful performance. I think your heart breaks for him. At the same time, there's a lot of comedy in the manga as well. We have Nathan Lane as HamEgg and Bill Nighy playing Dr. Elefun, and he's terrific in it. And we have a lot of new characters as well. We have a lot of very fun robots. I think there's a lot of comedy in the movie. But, again, it's a very emotional story."

Doesn't seem so bad to me. We don't know the "how" part of this equation yet, so there's no use in getting excited.

Remember, Tezuka himself loved to go back and revise his own work. IN the 60's anime, Tenma sells Astro, but in the 80's anime Tenma simply looses him and is never seen again. There are many ways to interpret this character and all of them are valid. I personally like the sound of movie Tenma a lot better than the 2003 playing-the-pipe-organ-in-his-evil-secret-lab Tenma.

Ah.. In that case. Then it's not as bad as I thought it to be...

I don't trust Hollywood, but after reading what I have read about this movie, I'm looking forward to it.

And I do prefer Tenma's fatherly side towards Astro... I'm a sucker for parent/child moments.

Well, that sounds a little better. I imagine he's going to end up rejected and sent to the circus at some point. They've already got Nathan Lane for HamEgg and I'm really looking forward to his performance.

I can agree that the organ playing Tenma was a little over the top, but the general idea was still there.

Still, if the quote is to be believed, then I perhaps there is still hope. Wait and see I suppose.
