Actually, both are correct; though 'defence' used in the UK:

Nah I like the idea that Astro could find romance in such a hard time for him.

He's obviously interested in Cora. And he has Toby's memories, and Toby was 13, right? Just the age when boys start to be interested in girls...

I don't find a robot/human romance off-putting at all in Astro's case. He's something more than a robot, a human robot, if you will. The relationship is problematic, but that's what makes it interesting.
