Oh definetly. When I began writing this I had never seen a single episode of the Japanese, so I automatically assumed that Denkou was a girl in the uncut as well. When I figured out she started off as a boy, I was a bit frustrated, but I didn't want to change the story any. So, I guess it's an American-ized fanfic. No offense taken!

Robots are often depicted as having different sexes in one version to another of the stories. Bem (last day of Earth) is a boy in the manga, yet, in the Jetter Mars version, there is no doubt that Bem is a girl.

Then there is Gum (pronounced 'Gamu').

He was Ambassador Magma's son, but when the family appeared in the 2003, Gum was a teenage Girl, rather than a little boy.
I supose if they had kept Denkou a boy in the English version, then he would have been a very.... um... "fruity" boy, for lack of a better word. It seems boys are made very pretty and girl-ish in some anime (not all...). But I think it might have been confusing and strange for a lot of Americans...
Neat links.
