I don't know, but while he is a boy in my mind, I also see him as being androgynous. I wouldn't have been able to identify with him so well otherwise.

Now that you mention it, I think you're right. That's probably the main reason why so many people are attracted to him.
He's got the beautiful eyes of a lady combined with the innocent cuteness of a 7 year old.
He's the perfect exemple that being 'androgynous' doesn't automatically relate to topics of sexuality.

Kids below age of 12 are often coming over as androgynous anyway since adults happen to have trouble telling them apart by gender. Remember Aaron Carter at age of 11? You couldn't tell whether he's a guy or a girl until you've been told for good.

Anyway, while the images aren't intended to be pornographic, what I meant is that some viewers may find it disturbing. And I can't find the article anymore, but I remember reading that Michi from the Metropolis manga served as the prototype for Astro, and Tezuka was very close to casting her as the main character.

And finally, I found the page that as the Astro Girl pictures, and she's kind of cute. She looks a lot older than her male counterpart, though. (I almost want to make a crack about Tenma building her with "extra details".)

Speaking for myself only, I do not find those images pornographic in any way. Strange, though, but not porno or should I say Echi (sp?) or hentai. It would require weird acts to go with the bare breasts. However, if the other mods disagree--
It also contains a mild discussion of Atom's sexuality; the author thinks that Atom was originally a female; hence the breasts.

I don't find them pornographic either. I hope I haven't been misunderstood - I'm in no way calling for censorship of the pictures or link. It just hit me as one of those "WTH!" moments, especially as the first picture I clicked on seems to have been the most extreme. I can handle the weird stuff better when I know it's coming and can be in the right frame of mind for it.
