Worth the cost. Have to be careful with the DVD package. DVDs are stacked on top of each other. One slip with the lock and you could scratch the discs! Then you would have to buy another!

Yes, I agree! I don't know why they stacked the DVDs as they did! I immediately took the Mothra disc out of the case & put it in a separate case! So if one has a spare case I suggest putting your favorite in a separate case! Although if one is careful, like you say it should not be too much of a problem! [/QUOTE]

I was stunned by that scene in Mothra that was cut from the Columbia version!

Hi! To which scene do you refer? The one in the middle of the movie where the twin fairies are wearing kimonos? Or......? As you can see most of the scenes edited out of the original had to do with trying to make it seem as "non-foreign" as possible! The funny thing is, watching these movies back in the sixties, when all "foreign" movies were dubbed into English and shown on TV in the U.S.A. that way (and I don't just mean the Japanese movies, as I remember seeing "La Dolce Vita" dubbed into English, as well as "Black Orpheus" and "Two Women"!) Funny thing is sometimes I liked seeing these classics in the dubbed version more than seeing them with sub-titles; as when I heard the actors speaking in their native tongues, it somehow just did not seem right! Score one for Titra Studios!

I usually use the original language option, esp. with these old movies, many of which had added clips in the American versions to include familiar actors, etc. While this means missing the added clips, it also means seeing the parts that were cut by censors. If not for the fact that I borrowed these from NF rather than buying them, I would have viewed both versions on disc; but then TCM plays many of these using the Americanized versions, anyway.

While I have not watched the original version in some time, I believe you are right in your reaction to the things they cut citing cultural differences! That is why I think this set and the other sets that include the original Japanese version with the widely seen American or English version are great!
