Americanization is not the best thing, specially when they change everything to suit their politic. I would like a OVA.
Btw, the deaths of the humans... Don't you find weird that they barelly show the corpses?
Also, I noticed the human deaths occurred by somebody else's hands while Pluto was away, perhaps they were committed by Abra/Abullah himself or his other persona known as Goji.

It comes from the midst of a story Fred Schodt mentioned only in his ASTROBOY ESSAYS. As far as I can see, it the only entry that matches its date is Astro Boy Returns, but the other data does not match. Rather, on the old web page for manga, it listed a story in the "1st Grade student<Study Magazine>", which Schodt never mentions in his tables in appendix A. My own data indicates that it is the 95th or 79th story, depending on whether you consider the chronicles as one or many stories.

Note the blank field where the story's title would otherwise be. Anyway, Tezuka apparently drew it concurrently with ATOM RETURNS.

I myself was rather surprised to see it, our friend Strange Wings has translated the title as "Mighty Atom (’Shounen First-Grader’ Edition)", & the date at page bottom indicates April 1972. The image depicts a scene from ATOM STOLEN, which was animated in the 3rd season of the B&W series, check this thread for images/details: 139, Atom Stolen (--, --).

My 1st sentence is better explained by saying that while that comic story contained this image, the image itself had nothing to do with it. Rather, there were several pages throughout it that had images from elsewhere in the MIGHTY ATOM corpus.

Hrm, confusing... I believe that a convoluted continuity was one of the tropes listed on the page on TVtropes.com.

Anyway, that thread lost a lot of focus, shall we keep the original subject about Pluto Manga Movie? That picture about "grow up Atom" is inconsistent with the thread. I recommend removal.

Personally, my only concern regarding Pluto is not the adaptation, but the way the adaptation is framed. I haven't read a lot of Urasawa many, but having read Pluto, I can safely say that he puts a lot of detail and nuance into his mystery stories, and all of it pays off (for the most part).

That is really hard pull off in an adaptation; because if you take out the wrong card, the house will fall down. Heck, that's mainly the only reason the Monster anime is so long, they knew they couldn't cut anything out.

Bottom line, adaptation is certainly an issue depending on who pens the script. But we also need to consider length, and the way the story is framed as well.

While we're talking about this, anyone else find it interesting that only in the manga Epsilon isn't a complete goody two shoes?

Lol. By goody two shoes do you mean compassionate and works with children? I thought he looked pretty kick arse (During Sultan's introduction)when he first busts those two robots away (with the children watching in the background) and then at near-invisible speed cuts the robot behind him in two with an awesome 180 degree supa-doopa-ninja-robot move.

Even the Sultan warns Bruton 'But don't let his manner fool you - he is one of the fiercest fighting robots I've ever seen'

Im pretty easy-going with regards to, well everything but even I was a bit annoyed with that very random (and creepy) picture being included that suddenely changed the whole tone of the thread.

To quote what I said elsewhere:

With Masaaki Yuasa’s Kick-Heart being the first anime funded on Kickstarter right now, I’ve seen lots of people saying Masao Maruyama should fund The Dreaming Machine like this. Which is funny because I’ve also been wishing for some time now that Maruyama would use Kickstarter but for something else: for a Pluto anime. He even said himself that he would be making one right now if he had the money, and wished that fans all around the world could contribute. I wonder if he’s keeping an eye on Kick-Heart before doing the same thing for a Pluto OVA series by MAPPA?

Making an anime for Pluto seems necessary before a movie can happen. By the time Illumination would be ready to work on the film, Pluto will be too far gone from mainstream consciousness. Actually it hasn't ever been in mainstreamn consciousness at all because it's only a comic, for now. I think they probably know this and are just waiting for Japan's adaptation first before making their move.

I wasn't claiming he couldn't kick butt: in all of the versions, he's the closest to defeating Pluto. HOWEVER: in the manga, he actually considers "cheating" to defeat Pluto by getting Pluto to try to rescue an underwater Astroboy in underwater quicksand. When Pluto starts to sink, Epsilon seriously considers letting him drown before rescuing pluto at the last second. I think this adds depth to the character I don't see in any of his (or her in the most recent anime (at least USA), make of that what you will) other adaptions, including Pluto.
