I recently sang the original japanese Astroboy opening to my japanese teacher, and she flipped. She said that she used to regularly watch the show in Japan back in the sixties, and that she had fond memories of that time.
Also, when I showed her the line "omukae de gonsu (here ta meet ya)" written in Kana, she cracked up. I was given the advice never to use the line in formal conversation, as it's japanese slang at its best.
