This week's episode 005 Cross Island (J: 012 Cruciform Island) ran about 25:02. I scrolled through my captured frames as I watched it, & did not notice anything missing from it.

No it was the same as the episode we spoke of before. It was taken from the DVD.

Do you think silver comet was the inspiration for Speed racer?

I do. Just as there are too many similarities between Kimba & Lion King for them to be coincidental, there are just as many between the White Planet & Speed Racer.

First, the cars:
  1. If you put one above the other, & viewed them from the side, their profiles are very similar.
  2. Their canopies open the same way.
  3. The Mach 5 jumps over obsticles in nearly the same way as the Black Falcon.
The races:
  1. Over any terrain
  2. dirty tricks
  3. team owners who scheme to have their drivers win at any cost

I cannot say that Tezuka originated all or any of these elements, though; but it is quite clear that he had them before the Seahorse guys put them in Mach Go Go Go anime. Mach Go Go Go anime dates to 1967; of course, they might have had these elements in their manga, & since only a few are in the WP manga, who can say who originated them?

How the heck could Astro Boy end up on Adult Swim? It's less violent than Hikaru no Go! (Well, not really, but you get my point).

In the tradition of showing parodies of 1960s cartoons, I suppose they decided to show a 1960s cartoon.
