You didn't read correctly ;) Or maybe you mean that one must buy the console too, which I didn't mention.
Anyway, so far as I paid for a game and the console it runs on, I don't think anyone can object whether I am playing the game on the actual console or an emulator for this console. Trying to enforce the opposite in my opinion holds a serious threat to personal freedoms.

Off course not, if you own both the console and the game than your good to go. But if not to epecially either of them than you are in desperate need of games or you do not wish to purchase one and support the game industry I guess. :blush:

Most third world countries are known to do this. I have a half-cousin who does this in Brazil.

There are alot of myths regarding the legalities of backing up of ROM files. Also, alot of the laws are country specific.

I don't think emulators are ever illegal, but I think that in most cases the actual game ROM files are (whether you own the actual game or not).

Another thing to keep in mind is that laws like this are largely designed to stop people from mass producing & distributing these things, and they are not likely to be enforced upon individuals in any but the most extreme cases. It's just not in the companys best interest for all kinds of reasons. However, with Nintendo & Sony both poised to release their back catalogs for download, we could see them tightening their grip upon websites that distribute ROMS, but it's pretty unlikely that they'll ever go after the individuals.
