Only in Japan could this crazy stuff happen. Only in Japan!

Take note of the image url. As you get closer to the actual production of Astroboy the movie, the more Michiko will come into play. How much railing against the Rik Veda will she allow? :whistling:
The Isa'Nami Shinobi were also disturbed. :ninja:
Who would brand the Happy Buddha as a Witchcraft Supply?

F*cking Terrible.

To quote the article: "There's no future for Tezuka Productions surviving on Tezuka works alone.

Umm... yes, there is. I know it doesn't say "Osamu Tezuka" Productions, but the company exists because of him, and sadly, he's dead. Maybe we can get some cool homages, Tim Burton certainly did wonders with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but the thing is we don't need new material or making his works reach out to everybody on earth by the wrong means. I don't want to see Astro wearing bling, talking like a southerner, or spending all day in a cubicle, and there are better ways to increase the audience than bastardizing something.

I'm sure Tezuka's works are faring well enough in Japan, I don't know, but here in America, and probably most of Europe as well, we have to swipe up anything Tezuka that comes our way in fear of never finding it again. They don't even have much of a presence here, Dark Horse printed all their Astro Boy stuff, and Unico is almost covertly being re-released at some undetermined date on DVD from New Galaxy Anime, a completely new company that will make this release it's first.

I want to see manga and anime sections as full of re-releases of Tezuka's works as much as every new Shonen Jump manga that seems to flood every shelf (no offense to Shonen Jump, Death Note is great!). I go into Barnes & Noble, and I see the manga section COMPLETELY devoid of anything Tezuka, except for novels involving him, like The Astroboy Essays. There are some anime released scattered about, you might find Set 1 (and to my knowledge, there is no set 2) of Kimba, and maybe a few of the releases of the 60's and modern Astro Boy (although the 80's series is uncommon, I picked it up at a thrift store).

How are westerners supposed to give a flying f*ck, seriously, if we get jack squat? Astro Boy showed up on Adult Swim, although it was most likely solely for nostalgia and laughs like Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Barely anybody took it seriously, because of the context it was in, as "just some old B&W cartoon with bad voices and animation" like Gigantor. At least 90% of western Tezuka fans are likely existing fans, ones that had been exposed to Tezuka's works sometime between the 60's and the mid-90's (I myself first experienced Tezuka, actually television and animation in general, from seeing the Unico movies, which had been rented from the library. It was also on Disney).

I don't think they're trying. The thing is, the western market is important, and I'm not just saying it because I'm in America and I don't know Japanese. The fact is, it may be outrageous in Japan, at least from what I've heard with all the things dedicated to him, but here in America most people, including anime fans, have never heard of the guy, and have never actually viewed any of his works, just dismissing Astro Boy as "some old kiddie cartoon" instead of actually watching or reading it even once.

I'm telling you, all they have to do is spark some real interest here, stop letting it stay niche, start releasing all their works and merchandise here, and it could become a phenomenon. Becoming popular outside of Japan would cause a bang here, and it would resonate all the way back to Japan, synchronizing interest and increasing popularity world-wide. They need to take the more obvious route, not this crazy sh*t.

However, once anything becomes popular, it almost always becomes garbage. All I want is for all his works to become translated here and easily obtainable. I don't have faith in that CGI movie, hopefully it won't get the wrong idea of what Astro Boy is into people's heads or anything.
