What would you want to see in a sequel?

Postby Laughing Dragon » 15 years ago

Well, it doesn't look likely now, but we can dream of a sequel...

I'd love to see more of the relationship between Astro and Cora. Maybe she gets kidnapped by some bad guy who wants to trade her for Astro's blue core (which is still in high demand by those who would abuse its power - cue evil BWAHAHAHAH!!!! here). And of course he goes to her rescue, and they end up helping each other escape.

I'd like to see how Astro copes with being a misfit hero. Life can't ever be easy for him, or he'd lose that angsty edge that made him so endearing in the movie. There could be some funny bits on how he deals with bullies, manipulative con men/statesmen, etc.

I'd like to see more of Cora's gang. They were a likeable bunch, especially loony little Grace, and they could operate as Astro's core supporters, who gather around him in his defense when needed.

And it'd be great if Nathan Lane's wonderfully sly Hamegg made a reappearance. Maybe he's even more resentful of Dr. Tenma and plans to wound him by capturing and dismantling Astro (perhaps at one point he could actually succeed, and it's up to Cora to find and rebuild her human/robot friend. That could be very emotional).

AND DEFINITELY MORE TRASH CAN!!! (ARF ARF)

I second the Atlas and twisted Dr. Tenma idea - I think they could go hand in hand together in a story, especially since Tenma is Atlas's creator. I agree Astro must always face hardship, but do so with his own brand of cheerfulness and bravery as only Astro can.

Another tact they could take is a plot based on the Game Boy Advance Astro Boy: Omega Factor, which had some excellent EXCELLENT story. They could easily adapt this by starting with the Stolen Sun as seen at the very end of the first movie and expand on that.

I'd like to see an Astro more comfortable with his powers (as he was beginning to become towards the end of the movie) and continuing to evolve.

I think deeper connections with his friends like Cora would also be interesting.

Whatever they do, the origin story out of the way, I'd like to see a more involved/deeper plot this time out - maybe some fun twists along the way.

All in all, I think it could be great stuff, and I think they could even one-up the first! (Unfortunately it's not looking extremely optimistic at this point - Imagi just laid off a bunch of animators according to the Astroboy-World blog =o/).

I wanna see Atlas, or Pluto...but I also wanna see how they'll do Livian or even if they do. She's pretty and deserves to be designed like a princess.

The Atlas or Pluto idea might be something they would go with and I would enjoy seeing too.
I like the Dr. Tenma from the 2003 series, but I can't see them going that route due to him already having gone from not wanting Astro to accepting him in the first movie, but you never know.
Also, in the 1980s color remake of Astro Boy it was not Dr. Tenma who created Atlas, but in the 2003 he did. :)
I would like to see his little sister! :D

Cool thoughts. I think a twisted Tenma would be difficult to include in a sequel, however, since he reconciled with Astro in the original film. But I could see Hamegg filling that role.

As for Astro's sister...this is just me, but I never cared much for Astro's manufactured family. It reminded me too much of the Huey, Dewey and Louie gimmick. His robot parents in particular would never work since they're not needed with Tenma stepping up to the father role. And...I would prefer for Astro to be a singular, unique creation, thus making him both more special and yet more isolated. Creating more like him would be like creating more than one red-nosed reindeer (I'm in a Christmas mood right now. :p ). But I see that there's a lot of fondness here for Uran, and I'm not attacking that. These are just my own preferences.

Box office report - Astro Boy placed 12th in the boxoffice rankings in its first week in France. Not great, but not horrible. I'll take what I can get. :)

The person who I'd love to see most introduced in a sequel is the Lex Luthor to Astro's Superman. Skunk. Da-Dah-Dum. :d evil:

They won't do Skunk unless its a series. And I'd hate to say it, but Skunk is what they called 'small cheese' no mouse wants it, they want the bigger piece sitting off to the side. I'd think they were to go off and make the Villains to be Pluto or Atlas to begin with then work it down to to Skunk AKA a series. I wouldn't mind another series, but I'd rather it be done by the original creators, whereas the movie done once again by Imagi. I'm not being raciest or anything I'm just saying a series has more maneuverability and japanese are the only ones who know Astro better then anyone else. Whereas Imagi knows the new movie better then anyone.

*Bangs head on desk.* I can work on this movie/series...I just chose not to! I'd be to inthrolled with the storyline then the arts. :D I'm such a sucker for a storyline :D
