Imagi in Mega Trouble

Postby Alittleacorn » 15 years ago

Imagi has updated their website, mentioning in a Profit Warning announcement of how, well...Astro Boy got PWNED at the box office!

They speak about how the poor performance of the movie has effected them finanically, you can find it on page 20 of their Annual Result announcement here.http://www.imagi.com.hk/web/archives/pdf/announcement/announce_20100721E.pdf

And here is the Profit Warning reporthttp://www.imagi.com.hk/web/archives/pdf/announcement/announce_20100715E%282%29.pdf

And here is Imagi's main annoucement page.

And here's Astro in a tutu if it helps v_v

If it's any consolation, Astro Boy did receive “The Ten Best 2009 Movies for
Families” Award at the Moveiguide® Awards.

But yeah...I feel like crying now...

The good news among the bad...

Postby AprilSeven » 15 years ago

Thanks, Acorn for posting this! Very interesting reading. Of course, those of us who were hoping the movie would usher in a new "era" for our REAL "man of steel" are crushed to read of it's failure (save for the important honor it received).

BUT -- and it's a GOOD "but" -- I spotted a couple bright spots:

Another confirmation that the movie in 3-D is coming
(page 19)
Consistent with the Group’s strategy in bringing the best quality animation into theatres, the Group is planning to produce Astro Boy motion picture in stereoscopic 3D version.

Admitting they botched the movie launch -- and that they are restructured to continue on.
(page 23)
The Group has suffered severely in the aftermath of the global financial crisis in 2008 and its financial results for the year ended 31st March 2010 were adversely affected by the ill prepared launch of Astro Boy. [ Oh! Ya THINK??] The directors of the Company have taken drastic steps to revamp both the operation and financial structure of the Group. Consequently, the Group has restored its financial health and become a much leaner but more focused entity.

So there you go, boys and girls: they admitted they undermined the success with a horrible launch (oh come now -- a week before Halloween? This should have been a summer movie, for heaven's sake!). And a better commercials -- and LOTS more of them (I never did see one on TV).

If they are smart (??) they will do a better job with the launch of the 3-D version. Let's hope so...

Wow thanks for spotting those April x3 or should I say Fuzzy Snuffles?

Least it shows it wasn't entirely the movie's fault, in fact it might've done a lot better if not for that. I know wasn't true to the animes or manga but it was still great and I could watch it dozen more times XD That Iron Giant film was a box office failure yet that turned into a classic.

Yesh let's hope they do better this time with the 3D version (the movie should've come been 3D on the big screen in the first place!). Spread the Astro wuv.

Oh and in other news, Gatchaman and Cat Tale have new preview teaser trailers.

Gotchaman

Cat Tale

I have to say, that Gatchaman teaser looks A LOT more intriguing than a previous teaser. I was by no means interested before, but if the film ever does come out I may be convinced to watch. Cause before it was a straight out no. XD

As for that cat one...why does that cat remind of Astro for some bizzare reason?

I do not mind so much that they don't stay true to the animes or manga's stories, but I wish they would remain closer in spirit. Astro Boy has interested too many people for too long, it has a lot of appeal and if it doesn't have success, then clearly somebody screw up somewhere.

Yeah, I got it working. Just took a while so yes. I think it was my computer.
Anyway, Cat Tale looks... interesting. I don't know if I want to see it in theaters but it doesn't look too bad
