The sound(s) of Astro's jets

Postby AprilSeven » 15 years ago

Okay, this is something I've pondered for a while now...

I grew up expecting to hear the "space-agey" sound used in the B&W 1960's anime whenever Astro flew.

I actually laughed out loud when I heard the strange, almost sputtering/toy lawnmower sound from the 1980's anime. To me, it doesn't sound remotely like small jet engines.

The movie seemed provide the most realistic sound for his jets -- also the fact he would most likely fire them in spurts (more fuel efficient and better control).

Was any reason given for the change in sound effect from the 60's to 80's version? At least the former had some semblance to a rocket sound.

Just curious!

:astro: - so now you're picking on my jet engines, huh?

:hyo: - they just sounded goofy at times

:astro: - unleaded fuel!! My legs were "dieseling"

I loved the way they the jets sounded in the 1980 version, and then there was a part of me that screams 'THEY DON'T SOUND LIKE JETS!' Maybe they run on candy or something, that's why they make that crazy bubble sputtering sound x3.

I know the movie one, but i can't remember the 1960's one sorry T.T

I actaually grew up watching the 80's series, so I actually expected the jets sound effect in that version. The 60's version, all sound effects sounded very cartoony if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.
You're not a joke, you fit right in!
So shake it off, and give a grin. Don't be afraid to stand your ground! Crazy, noisy BIZARRE Town!

hi- i hope ASTRO BOY is given anti-gravitic boots with advanced sensors that can help him manuever at speeds much faster then he flies now. By the way how fast does he fly now?

There's nothing cuter than the sound of Astro's jets in the 80's series!
It's like a Bunsen burner on steroids!

LOL!!! Love your description! It IS "cute" but just doesn't sound "powerful" -- but it's true -- jets do need air intake -- not familiar with pulse jets -- gonna Google that up. Sounds intriguing. :ninja:

Hence he switches to rocket power in space. Don't ask me where he stores the fuel. :D Still, his engine's sound effect remains the same - despite the lack of air.

What about Kinto-un? Goku's little cloud also has a really cute "putt-putt" sound.
