Just out of curiousity, which web browser do you use? I have Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 but I prefer Firefox by far.

Congrats on the broadband -- I was NEVER here (or ANYWHERE) until I got my Mac with broadband. Right now I've got to go into the other room and use my PC to do some work though (only dial-up there). From the sublime to the ridiculous!! see y'all later!!

Yup, sure do!! It's weird, but let me tell ya, we have a LOT of downtime with our broadband, so the dial-up is a safety net (slow, but sure like a turtle!).

I almost destroyed my poor PC when I first got it by attempting to load on anti-virus software from my job without having removed the (different brand) trial package that came installed on my computer. It's uhhh -- "compromised" -- and doesn't have any "protection" to speak off.

So I block all cookies, don't visit many websites, and use it, essentially as a WORK station. It will be TEN YEARS OLD next January, (it's an HP Pavillion) -- we bumped up it's memory and storage -- the thing runs like a tank. LOVE it!! Got a cheapie 21" monitor on it now, so I'm good to go. Besides when I'm over there, I'm not tempted to GOOF OFF by checking to see what's happening on the Astroboy Forum!

This is strange, but I have broadband and dial-up on the same computer! But since the broadband always works we use broadband but I've tryed the dial-up it works - but its VERY slow. You can't watch videos or do anything involving flash player on it.

I dunno what model it is butwe also have a HP. Its almost 4 years old but still its really great, so we don't plan to (and there's no point in) changing it. Never had a break-down or error in its entire working life.

My current computer uses Firefox with linnux in place of windows. I'm enjoying it. Linnux is most secure. You get no viruses with it.

Linnux is marvelous, but I need my "mainstream" operating systems for all my "mainstream" software packages and files I must share with others. *sigh*

My husband and I were talking about the amazing amount of work we got out of our humble Commodore 64 running Geos back in the 80's! There's still a LOT an "older" computer can do just fine for you. Gaming and graphics drive it down.

My machine here at work gets funky all the time because I work constantly with high-res photos and am slowly getting into video. That will REALLY bring it (a Dell Precision 390) to it's knees. I warned my supervisor I needed a quad-core, but did she listen? nooooooo! I'm due for new workstation next year, but with budget cuts, etc. I think I may have to wait another year!

@Androids -- yeah, both dial-up and broadband on the same machine is cool. I would be more squeemish about broadband on a Windows machine, because they are "attacked" so often. My home computer with broadband is a Mac, and it's a blessing, because (so far) they are less likely to get viruses (not that they are THAT much more stable, especially the newer operating systems).

At work (I'm part of a big Ivy-League university) we've got firewalls and stuff up the ying-yang and they STILL get hit). Last year the web server got nailed and was out for almost 6 months!!
