What was Osamu Tezuka like?

Postby Alittleacorn » 14 years ago

I mean as a person. I'm doing something, but for it to work successfully I need to get a grasp of his personality as best as possible. :hyo:

So does anyone know what he was like, any memorable quotes he might've said? The way he thought about life and so forth?

The documentary included with the Art of Osamu Tezuka book is wonderful. Here's a review: http://comicscomicsmag.com/2010/11/tezuka%E2%80%99s-secrets-of-creation.html

It's also important to know that Tezuka was never satisfied with anything he did, and always aimed higher. He also saw the works of other artists as a constant challenge to show himself he could tackle anything he wants.

Which is why some of his comics have so many different versions... Although some comics were just redrawn because of the older versions being lost, such as the case with the Shonen version of Leo...

Thinking about it, doesn't that kinda make him look a bit like a perfectionist?

"A child at heart"

Yeah, and some fantastic ideas no man or woman could match.

That is a wrong assumption. Tezuka authored many adult and some very serious works before. Not everything he wrote was for children, cute or good-humor.
