I wanna make AMVs

I wanna make some amvs soon since i have the 03 box set, movie, and in a matter of day(s) i am getting the 80's box set in the mail. my question(s) is what program should i use to turn the music and clips into a video and is there a program to take a scene from the dvd and turn it into a clip. any other advice would also be helpful. i am looking for free programs first. Also, i am running windows XP. Hope you guys can help!

I made this using Windows Movie Maker, but there are probably better software around. That's to put the movie together. You need other softwares to import the episodes from the DVD. I can't help you that much, the last time I tried, I couldn't remember how I used to do. Either that, or it didn't work on this computer for some reason.
