The bottom statement is what they said, the top part is what I replied with. I know some of you may disagree with me on this and may actually side with the first guy but this was my thought

I agree. The movie could have been better (still thought it was good though), but if it weren't for it I would have barely known about Astro Boy. I don't think they played it on CN in GA (or not long at all if they did) because I still watched Toonami in '03 and I never heard of the series til the movie made me wanna look it up online.

It wasn't the best film for the boy robot, but DBZ, Godzilla, Fist of the North Star and Avatar : The Last Airbender got much worse. They kept the initial story and put a cool modern twist to it which would have been better if it had better writing, put intelligence and depth into the plot like Tezuka's work and the characterizations were more on par with the original characters. I wish the film was more like Ghost's Astro Boy 2085 because it is the best example of a well done Astroboy story for a film.
It would have been better had Astro Boy 2009 was the start of a high budget CG Astro Boy tv series like Clone Wars or just been put on TV and broken up .
Come to think of it , I don't remember much of Astro Boy 2003 on TV besides bits and pieces. It was horribly handled promotion wise, toy wise and dub wise. I don't remember any toys for the series nor any merch. until I got fully internet wise. If the film was a mix of the 80's and 2003 anime series and took the best from each , it would have been successful. I'm still ticked they never went through with the live action film that Henson would have worked on because it sounds like it would have been fantastic because he films they work on are just awesome.

I personally don't care if someone doesn't like Astro Boy as long as they appreciate the positive impact that Astro Boy and any other work by Tezuka has had on anime as a whole. If they don't like the series that's their problem and I could care less. The only time I have a problem with it is if the person knows absolutely nothing about classic anime and doesn't appreciate the work of Osamu Tezuka.
Without Teuka they wouldn't have gotten their precious Toonami, or their precious Naruto, or Bleach, or even Dragonball. Anime would look pretty different without Astro Boy. Hell, Tezuka invented the "Big Eyes" that we see in almost all anime.
But if they acknowledge Tezuka's work, I have no problem. If they say that Astro Boy is overrated, or Tezuka's work is homosexual and it's propaganda, or something on the lines of that then I have a problem.
I haven't checked the review of this, or whatever it is, but if the person is a fan of Astro Boy and was really disappointing then I kinda have to agree with him/her. Then again the movie wasn't THAT bad.

Oh yeah, I talked to an anime fan once who when I asked about that to he was just like, "Oh, that's old." I wanted to punch him in the face but Astro wouldn't approve XD
