While the AI side might be nothing new, they got to the stage of using eyes for expression (and catlike ears, too). And they openly quote anime as the inspiration (at least for their customer).

We all know who started the use of eyes for expression in manga. So, while there is loads of tech that Tezuka predicted, this one might actually be derived from his work.

Interesting development, eyes that convey expressions. But without lower eyelids to tug and tongues to stick out, they still hyave a long way to go.
