Favorite Memory about Astro Boy?

When it comes to our favorite little robot boy and the series and franchise surrounding him, what is your favorite memory? Do you have fond memories of watching Astro Boy on television? Do you have fond memories of meeting someone who also likes Astro Boy? Or do you perhaps have fond memories about something regarding this forum?

For me, my favorite memory about this series is the Skype meeting we had almost a year ago. It was fun getting to hear you all talk about Astro Boy and to meet each other through our voices through the internet, even though the program kept crashing. Believe it or not, that Skype meeting will have taken place a year ago Tuesday.

What about you guys? What fond memories do you have of this series?

Not much so far. I did briefly watched the dub on Toonami (maybe once or twice) before it got taken off and I remember asking myself "hey, I want to see this show."

I also watched half of the 1980 Astro Boy English dub while it was still on YouTube, but that has since been gone. Really want that back...

It wasn't until just a few months ago when I really started to get into the franchise. I'm not sure when I'll be able to start buying Astro Boy related stuff (probably after Smash 4 comes out and I get it), but I can't wait for that day. My first target is of course getting the 1960s Japanese release of the series.

Oh, Shiyonasan, that day on Skype was the BEST memory, and I knew it was around this time of year. I remember Ghost and Astro Forever were fiddling with things to make it work - then it would crash, but we'd get it back up again!! It was really phenomenal to be able to talk with so many people from all around the world, and all ages! One of the great joys of the Internet!

I remember being really excited about the episode where they showed how Astro's jets worked. My brother and I, being children of an engineer, would spend HOURS drawing diagrams explaining how Astro worked. We both completely believed we'd live to see a "real" Astro Boy!! (this was back in the 60's).

So ANYTIME they opened Astro Boy up, we got a real thrill out of seeing his "innards!"

Then I got a crush on Astro Boy and I'd say my favorite episode was "Angel of the Alps"

My best memories are definitely from my childhood. Sleeping at a friend's house and watching the most recent Astro Boy episode she had recorded, and replaying the scenes we felt like watching again. I did not own a VCR in the time, and that amazing to me! "Playing Astro" with another friend. Watching the teaser and trying to imagine what the next episode would be like. Those were the best memories.

Being a few years older, watching the reruns, and starting to question a few scenes... Never imagining yet that some people could actually cut footage of a TV show... But still feeling good as I watched Astro, because he brought me a sense of peace, as he had when I was younger.

Also the day I found this forum. I was so eager to share my few memories, and learn as much as I could, that I didn't think twice about my choice of username at the moment I chose to register.

About the Skype meeting, it's hard to explain but I really wanted things to work as well as possible, and it took me some time to figure out how to improve the connection - it was really rough on my side in the beginning. After those 4 hours, I was exhausted from all those weird noises, the constant switch from one window to another, bringing back those who'd lost the connection or replying to the members who were one the forum wondering what was going on. I also remember preparing myself to call everybody, and chatting a little bit with a few members in the half hour before I was supposed to call. It was special, being alone at home yet still being able to feel the anticipation from so many!

Watching The first en second Japanese episodes from the 1980 series those are what really got me into Astro Boy and later on even more into tezuka so have to go with that one, despite already having seen the 2003 series before i liked it but it din't stand out for me.
And also the bond Atlas and Astro Boy had in that series was great i think when i actually got it on dvd i watched that whole series in a view days.

But also on a con when i was wearing my Astro Boy refelecting T-shirt and view pepole actually knew what it was about and where kinda jalous that i had such a nice T-shirt

Also another skype meeting when ? i'm just saying if it's gonna be more than a year ago in a bit since the last one we might as well have it soon.

My favorite memory of astro boy was when I was 11 and saw the previews in the theatres and thought to myself " that gonna be a weird movie, but the kid is cute!"

And my second favorite memory was not being able to sleep one night so I decided to watch the movie on YouTube just because I hadn't seen it. I ended up watching the movie 5 times that night and now I know every little detail about the movie

Mine is a little offbeat...it was back when I was in 8th grade at the start of the summer of 2007 and I'd discovered there was a rare Astro Boy American comic series, and one night while my family went to my sister's Irish dancing night in the veteran's hall, I left to go to the comic book store up the street. My suspicions were correct, and I left with issues 11-12 and 15-18. I remember walking the block back with all these comics, stopping to check them out (and mind you, I'd only been into Astro for a year then, and it felt like I'd met destiny).

A memory just as warm was the time I'd ordered all the manga I could from the library a year before (so, 2006) and it all came at the same time. So here's me with fifteen manga volumes and trying to read it within two weeks. I brought a gob of them with me to my parents' work softball tournament. I was reading through them like mad, sharing them with the other kids there, and I also recall telling my brother and some kids about the Astro Boy characters while we hopped around in an...wait for it...Astro Jump.

My memories are similar to Fauna's in that I really began to like Astro Boy a lot more after I'd read that volume 1 manga. Before then I'd only seen the 2003 episode of Astro: Rocket Ball, and the action and especially art style looked very intriguing to me, especially since I was an aspiring comic artist in (I think) highschool at the time. So, on one of my birthdays I finally acquired a copy of the manga, and after I read "HotDog Corps" I really was in awe of how great the story was. After that, I invested in the 2003 series and more of the manga, and then the 80s series, and then some other Tezuka work.
