02 MEXICO ADVENTURE (LIVE-ACTION)

Unfortunately the 1st segment was lost. Yet, segment #2 begins with a brief recap:



Nothing to do with a recap, but it is interesting that they put up the lyrics & music to the theme song.






As far as I can tell, Ochanomizu has just installed a GPS device.




At a spiral tower, Jetman & Karu (Karl) are climbing the stairs. I have not been able to tell what they wanted to do. Karl is THE FROZEN MAN's son.












Here, Tawashi (lead) wears a uniform.


Atom's costume has been changed from the bulky plastic strap-on parts as seen in the LIVE-ACTION MIGHTY ATOM, ZZZ story arc to a futuristic one.




I think this is the frozen man's brother, who, I am merely guessing, is asking Atom to protect his brother. But, later on, that will make no sense at all.


Villains.


Somebody please translate this!






In the hold of a ship, somebody is in trouble.


One of these boys is Shibugaki, I cannot tell if the other is Kenichi or Tamao.




Meanwhile, in Mexico, Karl's mother receives a message.














The one & only crabman, up close. By one & only, I do not mean character, but actor; as only 1 is ever on screen.

So, Atom has gone to Mexico to help Monsieur Ampere excavate the pyramid, as with other versions, he believes Ampere to be a good guy.








Anyone care to guess which one is the undercover cop?


At least one of these guys portrayed the kitchen help in the ZZZ arc.






Upon seeing a jeep, Ampere & co. open fire upon it. Atom is perplexed, but does nothing to stop it.






























So, upon arriving at the camp, Atom finds it torn apart, and the one guy left alive, will not last long.

That's a sad ending...

I'm not sure I could stand watching this for very long, but it's kind of historic, so it's great to see those pictures.

I did not know there were multiple episodes.

That was only the end of segment 3 (of 13), though 5 & 6 have been lost. I will post more later.

Thanks again for posting this rarely seen series. It looks like it might have been interesting to watch as a kid! Lucky that elements of the series survive!

The man died soon after his drink.

















Ampere, whose arm is restrained, was going to slap Atom; he would have regretted it, though.






In the local telegraph office, somebody does not want somebody else's message sent. I recall that Ampere's men are behind this.


















I had little success in determining the identity of this boy; whether he is Shib, Tamao, or Kenichi.




Sadly, both segments 5 & 6 were lost.

I just love the Sphinx! Unlike other versions, this one is clearly male.

Unlike other versions, there was no need to swim underwater to reach the inner chamber; though it has not yet been found.






The aforementioned inner chamber lies beyond that door.






















The inner chamber, but is this all there is?


This guy immediately begins loading up with jewels. Later, in the 1963 animated series, episode #128 Treasures of the Inca Empire (-- --), we see the same greed.


Aha! the hidden inner chamber, at last!






Atom seems a bit disturbed by what has turned into an expedition for plunder.
















Strange that the Sphinx & the crab robots are enemies.

hmy: What a turn of events! Ampere flips a switch, & the Sphinx emerges from the door to the freezing chamber, & attacks Atom & the cop. Since when does the Sphinx work for Ampere, & who put him in there, anyway? Was not this secret chamber inaccessible until Atom cut a hole through the door? No wonder Tezuka denied there even was a live-action version of Mighty Atom!












Clearly Ampere is a bit more familiar with this place than he ought to have been. Why did he even need Atom's help, if he had already been in here?






Just look at this place; it is huge & filled with tons of scientific equipment!
