One of the episodes from the first two seasons of the 63 series that never made it to the US English dubbed version was "The Hot Dog Corps". Well it seems that a clip of it WAS in the opening credits. I wonder why I never saw that until now, but I recognize the lead character from that episode from the manga.

That wasn't a clip from the actual episode, I think; more like just a character (or characters) featured in the opening animation.

Although it could be; scenes were often recycled, and certain ones could even be spotted in several episodes.

Well in a way it WAS a clip from the actual episode because the way they created the opening for the first season of Tetsuwan Atom, was to use clips from the first season episodes that had already been done before air date.
The other two opening sequences used in later seasons were made up without using any episode clips.
If you look carefully you can find the episodes that make up the first season opening sequence, I think all of them do appear in the English dubbed episodes, except for the one from Hot Dog Corps.

And episode footage WAS recycled, I just noticed that a sequence where a spaceship was being loaded with cargo had been used in both "Planet #13" and "The greatest Adventure on Earth".
