horror & Scifi 3/31/09 on TCM

Postby jeffbert » 16 years ago

A few classics, & one that I have yet to see will be on starting at 8PM (EST, USA)

  1. 8PM: I Married A Monster From Outer Space (1958). Though a low-budget film, it had some respectible SFX.
  2. 9:30PM: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). A classic, though it lacks the usual elements of scifi, it is rather tense.
  3. 11PM: 27th Day, The (1957) If you watched The Dark Knight, you may recall a scene on ferryboats with 2 groups each possessing remote detonators to destroy the other. This film featured a similar plot element 50 years ago.
  4. 12:30AM (4/1): H-Man, The (1958) I just must see this one, as it has victims melting away into slime! :d evil:
  5. 2AM: Forbidden Planet (1956) A Scifi take on the Tempest.
  6. 3:45AM (4/1): Lost Missile, The (1958) melts everthing it passes!
  7. 5AM (4/1): Hidden Values: The Movies of the '50s (2001) features commentary on films from Corman and contemporary people. A sentence from paragraph 3,
The one-hour documentary takes a film-by-film approach to explore the changing portrayal of teenagers and juvenile delinquents, society's anxiety about science and technology, the struggle for control within the family and changing ideas about expressing sexuality.

I watched H-man the other day, & almost failed to identify Paul Frees' voice because of the thick fake Japanese accent. :p The film was not as funny as I expected, but it was interesting, & the TCM guy gave a few comments both before & after.

Well yes.
The prettiest Japanese girls you'll likely see in a movie! Certainly the scantiest clad in the fifties!
It was a hit movie, and remains as scary as ever. The ghost ship scene is just classic!
Here is the Death ship scene!!1

It really is a fave in my collection... :w00t:

I was hoping for a letterbox print, but what they had was good. I have the Japanese language version and english too.
I got it from Monsters in motion...
Better than VHS, but not laservision. I hope they put out in a better print someday and on Blu ray...

Watch a clip with Yummi Shirakawa!!!1

I have a terrible habit of reducing the movie to PIP once things begin to slow a bit, & occupy myself in the foreground with something or other. I did go fullscreen for the girls, though, but just as it was becoming interesting again, the camera went to some guys sitting at a table!

Well yeah!
And the version they show is the cut version. The one on the 2 disc set is uncut with eng subs! :w00t:
They show the uncut scene where the dancing girl is eaten. And a bit more dancing beauties.
But I just found out that sony is coming out with a box set with the laserdisc print and also Mothra! Uncut and fabooo.
