I have a point to make

Postby Bakabits » 14 years ago

i hope i don't get banned for this.....

To start off i must state that i realize that some of the forum's members have been uptight lately BUT a bunch of these people are not handling it correctly. I remember reading a post by Fauna saying soemthing like...
This forum is geared towards Mature people....

This does not apply just with age, but maturity as well. If you have a problem with someone please let the mods know and DON'T snap on that person or someone else. I stand for everyone on this forum who has been abused or treated unfairly AND are handling it Maturely.

I am not ranting just making a point.

I can't see why you should be banned for this. ;)

It's understandable that when there is something wrong, people want react to it publicly. This is a public forum, after all. I'm thinking that it can be a good thing at times (it always depend on the context and what is said, obviously): a user who is not being respected might feel better knowing he is supported and the user who has said something questionable may be better able to understand from other people's reaction. However, if anobody feels the need to say something, there are ways to do that and remain respectful at the same time. And if somebody can't do that, certainly it would be much better to alert any moderator instead!

We (the moderators) really want to be notified of any problem, anything that makes a member uncomfortable, anything that somebody else thinks could make another member feel uncomfortable, or even anything that is annoying, really. We really want everybody to feel respected here. Also you have to understand that sometimes we do see things, but it can also happen that we are not aware of the particular context of a discussion, if other things have happened in the past, for example, so don't assume that we agree with something because we let it go.

I'm not sure how it looks on the forum, but we do try to do what we have to do. Perhaps sometimes it looks like we are slow; sometimes in the past I think we have been slower to react than we should have been, but usually just because something doesn't happen right away or isn't public doesn't mean that we are not doing anything. When something occurs publicly, I know that I tend to try to resolve that in private because I wouldn't want to cause even more stress or sadness to anybody by adding to an already difficult discussion.

I don't think anybody can pretend to always have the absolute best judgment in everything either, so should anybody think we are off in a particular situation, you can PM us, we will always listen to what you have to say! I know I wouldn't be offended, and knowing Vergere and Fauna, I don't think they would, either.

This incident was not the first time. That member had another incident similar to the one that happened over the last couple of days and we all handled it very maturely. This was the second time that she had caused a big problem and it had been going on with a few other members for quite some time. We thought that she had learned the first time it happened, but almost nothing changed and in in some ways she got worse.

All I can say is this is not the first time, which may have aided in our reactions toward what happened, but usually we do handle things very maturely, so don't tell us to handle this more maturely because we have been very patient with her, but it was very evident that she had not even realized that she was doing anything wrong and she had finally reached the end of our patience. We were nice the first time hoping that she would learn, but this time our snapping at her is the only way that we might get it though her thick skull.

I did not make this thread for THAT reason. I meant Whats been going on in general. A lot of members seem to be in bad moods and i do not want to see anyone else get banned because of it. Thats all.

Astro Boy2866, I may be wrong but I do not think that this is necessarily exactly what made AstroMars137 start this thread. At least I took it as a general comment not directed at anybody in particular. (oops, he replied before I could post...)

But I do think you are right when you say that there have been instances when a lot of people displayed a lot of patience until it really felt too much...

And aside from spammers, I think we've banned four members in five years...

I'm sorry I thought that was what you guys were talking about, but apparently not. I'll go ahead and delete that post if you guys want.

That's good because that means that there are a lot of good people here.

More of a reason for me to make this thread! To help the good members realize before something goes wrong.

4 members banned! What exactly do you need to do for that to happen? (rhetorical, I probably don't really want to know anyway) This forum seems to have a high level of tolerance!

Well, it's not like we have a huge level of activity and thousands of members. It would probably be very worrying if we were banning 5 members every year! But, to reply to your question without really replying: it's very difficult to say it takes x + y + z to get banned, because there have never been two identical situations. As a moderator, I have tried to adjust and use past experiences but trust me, it's not easy!

I think we do have a lot of good people here, I've seen a lot of support between members and in general, with explanations and good faith, there are ways to reach an agreement.

I have met so many good and senstitive people here, who deeply cared for others, that I have concluded that those who love Astro usually are good people. :astro:  ;)

I agree. ._. The way the... problem was handled seemed a bit off track. I really don't want to say anything about this, it just scares me somehow. T.T Hopefully, everything could go back to normal now...?
