OR you are simply ahead of the curve. ;)

Maybe someone like Fred Schodt would be interested in translating the book into Japanese? I do find it amazing more people don't "get" Astro Boy, and I almost feel that there's a "jealousy factor" or (dare I say it) "anti-Japanese factor" at work here. I can't help but believe that if Disney or some other major entertainment firm were to obtain the rights to the franchise, and rework the story to be based in America, it would (pun intended) take off like a rocket.

Astro is VERY "All American" -- but the problem is... he's Japanese. Even if he were English (think Harry Potter), I believe the connection would work -- but the language and culture being so different from ours (plus the lingering effects of WWII) could be a reason he's slower to gain popularity.

Still, with young people today seeing the world "without borders" -- and AB is a very "borderless" hero -- I personally think he WILL eventually develop into a worldwide phenomenon -- Disney has been tainted (sweatshops producing toys, diminished quality animation and story lines, etc.). Tezuka/Atom has NOT. I think Astro Boy is going to be the Mickey Mouse of the 21st Century -- especially as humanoid robotics become more and more commonplace.

Don't doubt the value of your book Jeffbert -- you're doing it for the best of reasons. Just be sure to copyright the manuscript, and stand by -- I think you'll ultimately be very pleased.

THIS. :D 100%. I've always thought that a majority of American companies that distribute anime/manga have been secretly plotting to make America hate anything Japanese. Look at 4Kids and what they do to anime. Not cool, man! Not cool! Not to mention what Sony did to Astro Boy 2003 (need I remind anyone of this?). I swear - it's a conspiracy!

Then, you have companies like Tokyo-Pop and Aniplex that do a darn good job being faithful to the land of the rising son. (Even ViZ manages to skimp out on the editing). These companies are some of the few I will even think of purchasing manga/anime from since they are so true to the originals. I salute you! :w00t:

Jeffbert, when you publish that book, I will buy 10 copies. It shall NEVAR BE A FAILURE!

GO TEAM VENTURE!!!!

...wait...

Turst me, there's been worse off topic subjects, take the thread about the Astro Boy coloring book scans, for example. It went from asking for pages from the Astro Boy coloring book, to jokes about his outfit, to a Hyotantsugi attack!
You're not a joke, you fit right in!
So shake it off, and give a grin. Don't be afraid to stand your ground! Crazy, noisy BIZARRE Town!

Sadly, this is one of those Japan-Only books :( , so don't get too excited. xP I really wouldn't mind getting my hands on the other books in this encyclopedia set, though. Even if I know nothing of the series', seeing the artwork involved is always fun. :3

I still want that Astro Boy guide book, though...(even if I can't read it...)
