Why Butt Machine Guns?

I just wondered when Tezuka was thinking of possible powers for Astro, how did the idea for butt machine guns get put on the table? Did Tezuka choose them because they were original or was it to add a sense of humor to Astro's character?

And I don't know where but there was a Japanese film that featured a girl with a similar ability, except she had one machine gun not two.

Forget that Tenma wasn't "sane" during the whole operation. I bet that he wasn't even sure what else he built in ,like having rockets in all four limbs and having only one arm with an blast cannon, lasers in his index fingers, and ultrasonic hearing,and eye lights.beyond the brain I think he was totally insane enough that he didn't know how to be exhausted.

I always figured 'cause it was simply funny. And it is XD
And it actually comes pretty practical for Astro, seeing how often he gets into situations he can't use his hands or needs to attack from behind.
