Technically speaking Tezuka himself must have always personally envisaged "her" as masculine. The 2003 series was made after his death, and they felt free to take liberties with the character.
But Epsilon is so wonderfully perfect as a female robot.

Incidentally as far as I can tell, the '03 series is also the only version where Epsilon wasn't permanently destroyed by Pluto.
In fact it seems to imply throughout the series that any robot characters who are destroyed get rebuilt/repaired. Even Pluto himself was restored by the Blue Knight in the end.

I don't know...
I can't really tell. It's kind of both sexes.
Reminds me of Ellen Degeneres a bit.
The design could go either way. Is that really a male?
Reminds me of French Cinema. Bardot on a beach?
Yes BB would be the design I would use for the Epsilon Robot.
More BB as an action hero type.

I wouldn't like Epsilon destroyed in the ending...

I take it you mean in the ending of this proposed new movie Androids. Well I wouldn't want that to happen either.
I was really glad to see Epsilon re-appear after her "termination" when I first watched the '03 series through. She is so beautiful.

Who would have thought I'd begin to develop a crush on an animated character? Though my first serious anime crush was probably Princess Sapphire.

I think Epsilon's "termination" might be one of the reasons why they mixed the Pluto episodes up (I know that because Zoran appeared before her debut). Maybe they didn't want Epsilon to be destroyed so she made a re-appearence. In "showdown in robotonia" she made a re-appearence, so it might be that originally she was meant to be re-constructed, as all the other robots like Atlas and Pluto were...?
