Got some insane callus build-up on my toe

Postby Dr. Jerk » 15 years ago

It's so odd right now. A couple of days ago, I came back from a short outing and found that my right big toe had started to hurt as I walked. At first it was nothing but the more I walked around, the sorer it got. The next morning it felt fine, but started to hurt the more I walked again.

I deduced that it was probably some callus build up. More like, insane callus build up. I had to use several things such as an electric buffer and this foot care thing that looks more like a cheese grater. And I guess it helped a bit, but my toe was still sore and today it still is. Almost as if what I did had not helped it at all.

I don't get it. Usually when I buff down a callus on my foot, it becomes fine at least the next morning. But this has been going on for almost three days now, I cannot stand it anymore. I can hardly walk normally without having to limp as I cannot really put a lot of weight on it, so as a result I'm ending up sitting around more than usual yesterday and today.

It's not a foot corn, I know that much, just some insane callus build up that apparently will not go away.

I'm sure there might be people here who have experienced similar things. It's becoming quite unbearable. So... any advice you could give to someone who is otherwise unable to get rid of this?

We had to go shopping for things, but I guess it wasn't that short.

Anyway, a couple of days have passed since and it appears that my callus has gone down. My feet still occasionally hurt from it, but it's much better than what it used to be. In short, I can walk again. =P

Ok so it shouldn't happen again, at least on the same toe. I'm not sure how to explain it but anyways, your skin should be stronger after doing anything strange while at the store. I'm sure you know that guitar players get calluses on their fingers as well as baseball players. Well, it hurts for a couple of days but then your skin gets used to it and becomes stronger/tougher, so it shouldn't happen again.

Did you do anything out of the ordinary or were you just walking? Perhaps new shoes?

Actually, calluses and foot corns are the result of pressure against the skin, which then starts to swell up as the callus on your skin starts to swell up. (Callus is a normal part of healthy skin, it's just sometimes they build up too much.) It's possible to buff these down for them to go away, but you'll get a tendency to get them in the same area again.

Usually they're formed from pressure, sometimes even the way you walk can form calluses. It basically has to do with friction, which is why calluses are more likely to form on the feet, since we do our walking on our feet. Everyone gets them.

I haven't gotten any... yet

That's true I'm mostly going off what I know about callauses on your fingers which don't happen as much, it seems, as foot corn. I play baseball and guitar, hence my examples, and I used to get callauses a lot but now they hardly happen at all because of the tolerance that the skin develops towards the particular activity.

Oh I'm sure you have but just haven't noticed.

Then again, you're still a young teen. You'll get them with age and the more walking you do.
