The Brave in Space

Thank you for adding those links Solarcat 20! In viewing "Mighty Atom the Brave in Space" it is interesting to note that the film ties the three episodes together with framing sequences using short scenes from other episodes to connect the main episodes together. For ex.) In between "The Moon Monsters" and "Attack from Space", scenes from "Mars Expedition" show the many life forms thought to exist before going into the main story. Its unfortunate that the film has not been dubbed and released in English.

I'm pretty sure that's because the movie itself just reused pre-existing episodes. Also, wasn't half of it in color? There was also a colored episode, but the dub greyscaled it.

Does any one know where the scenes bridging "The Phantom Spaceship" episode to "The Moon Monsters" episode are from? And yes all the episodes used were dubbed into English with the exception of the color version of "The Moon Monsters"! (Although it does exist as a B/W dub.)

Years ago when I worked out a list of the English episodes to Japanese episodes and realized that all three episodes used in "Mighty Atom the Brave in Space" had been dubbed into English, I wrote to the Right Stuf Inc. and suggested that they should issue an English version of "Mighty Atom the Brave in Space"! I was told they did not have the rights to that movie and I should contact Manga Entertainment which I did and received no response!

With the 60th anniversary of Atom's first appearance coming up next year, it would probably be a great idea to write the powers that be and ask them to issue the film in English, even if only as a special edition!

O.k., I just watched that transition portion, ASTROBUDDY, and I think it was created especially to fill the gaps between 46, Robot Spaceship (Phantom Space Ship) & #56, Earth Defense Army (32, Moon Monsters), as also I am certain that the 1st few minutes of the film were unique. There is a booklet in the DVD case, & it apparently describes this movie, but it is in Japanese.

Yes, it would be nice to have this dubbed of even subbed (as is #56), but it is not likely to happen.

Given that the film pretty much reuses episodes, I suppose it would be possible to create dub titles for it, or something...

Although the original content would require fan subbing, I imagine.

Thanks Jeffbert! I guess with money coming in from NBC, Mushi Pro. had a little money to do those "transition" (that's the word I was looking for) scenes, while they used already exisiting footage to experiment with color.

Another thing I find interesting is that they had transitional scenes. If the film were put together by a US company, they would have just spliced the episodes together; removing the opening and closing credits and running the episodes back to back.

While I agree at this point in time it's unlikely we'll see an English dubbed version, stranger things have happened. For ex.) who would have thought that Fritz Lang's "Metropolis", the film which inspired Tezuka's "Metropolis", would have ever been restored to its approximate original length.
