Who should I cosplay as (Part Two)

Postby Fauna » 15 years ago

Well, it's that time of the season again! I've got another mini anime convention coming up in town, and I need to get a costume together by December 18th. I have one of two choices:

1. Enhance one of my past costumes
2. Go for my dream cosplay

I'm thinking of going back and repairing one of my past costumes, a personal favourite that is unfortunately obscure, R Ichirou Tanaka from Kyukyoku Choujin R, a lanky young android who loves rice and his school's camera club. The repairs include stronger velcro straps on the jacket, finding more comfortable sandals and securing the non-functional gold buttons.

But then there's a costume I've long had in planning. It's a heavy, complicated one, but I could wear it in winter weather without any problem and I truly love the character. This is Kenji Murasame from Giant Robo, an immortal Franco-Japanese detective. The path to this costume is stained with pink fabric dye and Value Village receipts, but it's one I'd gladly walk down.

Do note that I love both characters equally, and my choice depends more on who is potentially easier to work with at this time, and who people respond to the most positively.

Any suggestions, you guys?

Tanaka seems a bit simple, and you probably won't get a lot of people who would recognize right off the bat of who he is. But in the same light, enhancements are much more simpler, especially if you're on a tight deadline.

I'd go with Murasame just because he's different and would stand out in a crowd, but I'm not sure on your opinions in regards to more recognizable things.

If you have a huge rubbery, squishy and bouncy nose, of course go for O'Shay

@Dr. Jerk: Ever since I attempted to be Gendo Ikari at school for Halloween when I was fifteen, and the resulting failure of a costume and ensuing repeated "Are you a Beatle?" questions, I've been very much in favour of recognizability. I'll ask around for public opinion, but right now my heart is with Kenji.

@Androids101: I'm too tall and gangly to go as him.

I totally understand. I have a costume for a Dr. Wily cosplay (the wig isn't perfect, but I at least have the mustache, I've seen people cosplay as him without it), and I believe that most of the time I'll be mistaken for Albert Einstein.

Okay, so I just found a trenchcoat that I can dye that is dead-on to all the little details in Kenji's coat, but it's huge on me. After I turn it pink, I'm going to see if I look less like a small child wearing it if I've got elevator insoles in my shoes.

There are hats that are pretty much what I need on eBay, so one of those is coming after I've got the coat dyed, so I have a shade to match the hat to. I'm getting really excited about making this cosplay now~

Here I am with a similar dilema. My BFF is having an anime cosplay party, and I dunno what to choose for my costume! I wanna be either Tima, Sailor Moon, or Sakura from Naruto. I dunno about Sakura though, because very few people know I like Naruto, but I don't wanna be judged or anything (in case some of you didn't know, Naruto fans have been known to be weird, which is why they're usually nicknamed "Naretards").
You're not a joke, you fit right in!
So shake it off, and give a grin. Don't be afraid to stand your ground! Crazy, noisy BIZARRE Town!

I almost want to say Sailor Moon for you, since nearly everybody over the age of ten knows who she is, but it's a matter of trying to make an outfit that isn't too short and won't make you cold.

There's a comic and anime shop outside my hometown that has a complete Sailor Moon costume for $125, and this just reminded me of it.
