Has anyone in America seen the new Public Service anouncement on television that touts the new ratings for video games?
I saw it last night and I'm still searching You tube for it. You have a mother and her two kids at a toy store and she's promoting this new system and what video game does she happen to pull of the shelf?
The Astro Boy game.
So the mother looks at the box and it's not like they tried their best to cover the title, you can clearly see it and she says....
"Robot character uses arm cannons...robot's arms and legs fly off? Well...maybe not the best game for you two after all."
Come on...you mean to tell me you couldn't find a more violent video game that allows players to blow holes in people and spill blood? How about Medal of Honor or Call of Duty? Glorify that war violence!
Instead...let's bash Astro Boy!
I know, this rant will probably get removed but come on I just had to write to the government agency and call this a low blow kick in the face.
PSA slams Astro Boy
PSA slams Astro Boy
"You guys have some serious Mommy issues."
I...want to see this, because it's utterly ridiculous in words alone. Maybe the mother turned and got Fable II for her kids instead.
It's like they were ready to start filming and someone said, "QUICK, GRAB ONE OF THE GAMES AND FIND SOMETHING BAD ABOUT IT. I don't care what you get; we have six minutes to get this done."
You Americans have some awful or oddly-simple PSAs...up here, our PSA makers aren't scared at all to kick into unsettling scare tactics to get a point across, and then run the final product on lunchtime hours on the kid's station. (here's a really fun one.) But at least they didn't do anything bad with Astro.

HERE IT IS...

I found it --

Okay -- it's called "BlastMan" and you can see it actually ISN'T Astro, but it's a blatant copy. I wonder how Imagi and Sony Pictures feels about this?
EXCUSE ME -- EVER WATCH A ROAD RUNNER CARTOON??
very frustrating, indeed -- thanks for the heads-up, Dan. I think we ought to write in protest to the obvious allusion to Astro Boy.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! WHY DON'T YOU GO BUY THE STUPID CUTE FLUFFY FAIRY GAMES AND LEAVE POOR ASTRO ALONE!?

Come to think of it, Australia's television and video game ratings areWAY over the bar, I mean seriously why does lego Indiana Jones get a PG? Why does even Astro Boy get a PG? Because it might motivate children to go out the door and punch people in the face? Because the child might think he has rocket boots and attempt to fly!?
Also, yesterday my class got to go to the cinema to watch a new animated film called "Megamind" by dreamworks. Seriously, so why would that get a PG rating? Hmmmm...coarse language? It says so right on the cover. COARSE LANGUAGE!? There wasn't a single swear word in the entire movie, let me tell you. So everyday words like "crazy" or "idiot" are coarse language now!?
As bizzare as it seems, even the majority of year 2 or even year 1 kids know "bad" swear words like the f-word or something, and no, IT DIDN'T COME FROM THE FILMS AND THEIR RATINGS.

.
It may be Blastman, but yeah, that mother has no idea what true violent games actually are.
And people always seem to fail to notice the ESRB ratings, they're there for a reason. Seriously, people should stop educating people how to judge a game by cover or summary, and learn to judge by the damn, official rating.
I'm so glad my parents aren't like that. In fact, they even let me play M-rated titles at a young age, but that's besides the point. <_<

Speechless, just speechless. That is beyond stupid that they bash Astro Boy for being violent. I could go on, and on, and on about game ratings and bad parenting but I don't want to get into it.
But I just hate people like this
"Oh Grand Theft Auto 4! What a great game I should buy for my Eight year old son! When my son does something violent because of this game, I'll blame the government and the game industry!" Just all stupid because people are either too young or too stupid to realize that it's just a game, made for entertainment. People out there don't seem to realize that.
Like I said I could go on, and on.

Actually, with a name like "Blastman" I get the feeling it's actually slamming Mega Man. But wait... since when is action with robots too violent? Aren't robots what you use to get around being too violent? That's how it worked when I was a kid. o_O And now I just looked at the game. E10 is too violent for them? What the hell woman? All they have left now is like... Hello Kitty or something >>
