So I read the book and yes Atom was born in Takarazuka. I'm not sure about Ochanomizu's birth place.

Huh, so it was Takarazuka... although, that does seem to clash with what you said, that Tezuka was probably stationed in Tokyo... Unless you meant that the manga was authored in Tokyo, and that in fictional canon, Atom was born in Takarazuka...

Anyway, very glad to hear that Ochanomizu did have a possible mentioned birthplace. Did they happen to mention which island by chance?

Well, I meant like "stationed" as in he was just there at the time, but the more I think of it I realize it's probably Takarazuka like AB8629 said. I know some of the anime and manga spin-offs take place in Tokyo rather than Metro City, but still.

I'm going to have to go dig through my books after I complete my History final, but I'll at least try to track down what island it was.

i'll look back into the Astro boy tails and she where he met Ochanomizu becuase he appeared to be much younger in that volume so it is safe to assume he was born there

Okay,according to Schodt's "Astro Boy Essays", Tezuka was born in Toyonaka City in the prefecture of Osaka. He was raised in Takarazuka and was highly influenced by its theatre.

In 1951, while a medical student at the University of Osaka, he drew "Atom(u) Taishi", the manga in which Atom/Astro Boy was introduced. In 1952, after he had graduated and earned his medical degree, he moved to Tokyo where he began "TetsuWan Atom(u)". So to answer your question, Tezuka was living in Osaka when he created Atom. But I believe in the manga and anime he is stated as being born in Tokyo.

Sorry, don't know too much about Dr. Ochanomizu, but I do think there is a manga story which mentions where he is from. It has something to do with him meeting his ancestor or descendent and time travel.

In the manga and first two anime, Astro and Dr. Ochanomizu definitely live in Tokyo. That's all I know. Oh and Astro was born in the Institute of Precision Machinery, which I assume is next to the Ministry of Science.

Was Higeoyaji's birthplace (in the Atom 'verse) also mentioned? The official Tezuka website mentions that he was born in Kanda, and then states he was born in Itami, Osaka...

I think he may mention his birth place during one of the multiple times he proudly proclaims being a true Tokyoite and such... I wish I could remember the chapters where he says that.
