I believe in a thread that I started, (Not going to say any names) suffers the exact same thing. I'm starting to get annoyed by people flooding a thread with their off-topic idiocy. Like Fauna said, either start your own forum or go chat about off-topic crap on msn, or skype, just anywhere that isn't a thread on this forum. Hell even go back and forth over Private Messaging if you have to. But please do us all a favor and stop posting pages, pages, and pages of off-topic crap. This thread is not your only means of communication to the outside world.
EDIT: @Astro Forever, Cool. Glad you're doing something about this.

Yes, I know. We waited because we would have wanted these people to understand and change their ways themselves. We gave them time to adapt, and at first it seemed to go a little better, but in the past few days it certainly wasn't the case.

I hope everybody can enjoy the forum from now on. Don't be afraid to post and start topics!

I wouldn't have posted this here before warning the members in PM first. In fact I didn't even really want to post this in public at all at first but given the atmosphere today, I felt I had to, plus I wanted the members who had been patiently waiting for things to improve to know that they had been heard.

It's unfortunate, because these members really do contribute interesting stuff, and I love hearing their viewpoints on things (their youth, intelligence and energy are fantastic and inspiring) . . . but it's like they forget they're in a position of "public speaking" more than a chat room. It's been wonderful to look up topics here and glean all kinds of information -- but when members write off topic for too long (and on too many threads) it's the same effect as spam -- you look right past the whole thread thinking it will just be personal discussion.
I definitely hope they don't leave -- just build their personal friendships via e-mail - or even a "chat" thread, and contribute - as they have - great content to the forum.

I completely agree with both of you.
Those members aren't banned and they are still allowed to post, in fact I don't even think we have been that restrictive. It should be more than enough for them to display their enthusiasm and creativity and not enough to make the rest of the members feel like we are 20 people in an elevator grasping for air.

Reason: oops, wrong word!

I may have posted off-topic stuff before, (I don't recall but I'm sure I have) but I can't say that I blame people getting angry over this. I'm a little annoyed that I started a thread a while back, starting posting in it again very recently and it had pages of just obsolete nonsense that had nothing to do with the topic. If it's one thing on the internet that I hate is spam. Now I will admit I am one of the younger users on here, but I'm not stupid and I know that when I flood a thread with nonsense, it pisses people off. I know this from previous experiences on gaming forums. I know that these people aren't bad and I do not hate them at all; it's just annoying when they do things like this, intentional or not.

We've probably all been a little off topic at some point, you know GhostATR.
We're not about to "hit" everybody for going off topic a little (although I would like the members who have been asked to be careful to avoid it altogether until they have shown better posting habits). A few off topic posts here and there shouldn't be annoying. Many times, off topic discussions can even turn out to be really interesting!
From what I can see, we all agree the problem was that it was excessive.
