Postby AprilSeven » 14 years ago

As a former "lurker" (you know, someone who reads the forum, but doesn't post) I extend a warm welcome to all of the you out there who having registered yet and stopped in to introduce yourselves!!

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, CHRISTMAS?? Well, guess what -- it's almost here, and if just SIX MORE OF YOU sign up and join our forum, we will make the 200 active member mark -- something we'd all like to see. The more Astro supporters out there who make themselves known, the better it is for Astro's future!!

Join the party!!

I don't have access to that option, but the default for vBulletin is 30 days. However, I've just taken a look at the actual list and it seems to me that users who registered and have yet to post are considered active. There are many, many of them. For example, in the past 24 hours, we've had 43 "active" users, but many of them are banned and have 0 post (although maybe they did post and our spam program (thank you Vergere!) has deleted their post(s) and banned them, or else the program detected them as future spammers and banned them before they could post. I think these are the result of automatic processes in order to send spam.

I'm afraid the 194 probably do not mean much... :( Sorry to disappoint you...

@Astro Forever - I'm a advertising/marketing person and since I've joined, I've watched that "activity meter" to witness it see-sawing back and forth (not unlike the stock market!).

The past month or so, I've noticed an uptick in activity, and in the number of people registering. I'm curious as to why (the movie on DVD? Pluto?). I'd also love to know where the visitors and new members are from, but that's not available (unless the mods can discern this).

I've been a member for about a year and a half, and don't remember ever seeing the activity level as high as this. It can only be a GOOD thing, as Astro/Tezuka fans -- the more interested, engaged members, the more we grow the dynamic components of this website, and the more popular it/Astro becomes. Look at how many members contribute fanfics, art/graphics, AMV's, and we've even had a number of roleplays. This is AWESOME, and the result of a greater diversity of members.

So even if the 194 doesn't reflect a scientific number, it DOES reflect an increase in activity, and hints that an even larger number of people are here and reading, if not posting. All this is GOOD for our hero - :astro: - and advocating for his story to be out there for the world to enjoy! I might be the "Pollyanna" of the forum, but so bet it! :D

I guess we could always create a thread where we ask each other how we got into Astro Boy, but I suppose that's quite different from where exactly they hail from.

AprilSeven, I also have a feeling that the activity on the forum is the result of more different posters than it ever was since I joined here (and if it is not, then we must not be too far). To be completely honest, I find it hard to accurately assess the situation of the past few months because of all of the, let's say, "mixed up" in the threads. As you say, I think it's at least partly because there has been more talk of Astro Boy in the media. I think some users here have said they came from Tezuka in English because they have problems over there, although I haven't followed that forum closely so I do not know what happened.

For real statistics, I would really need to check each member who joined or posted separately for the past months because there are a lot of spammers. When I checked last evening, each time I was clicking on a username who had 0 post, it said "banned", "banned", "banned" and the rest of the usernames were known here. There are so many spammers that they are a majority and an increase in spamming activity alone could make a difference.

I could tell you how the visitors reach this site if I was the owner of the domain astroboy-online.com, but it's Mark's, so I do not have any access to the data.
