Just an odd question but...

Postby Astronomical girl » 14 years ago

Its a strange question but is it possible for Dr.O'Shay/Ochanomizu/Elefun to have been a parent? this question occurred to me before but examining how he talks to Astro and many other children,he is calm and he listens and he counsels, and he has also stated that he understood Tenma's pain and so I'm rather curious.

Maybe...

He pretty much acted like the stepfather of Astro when Tenma abandoned him. Tezuka drew him in many ways like a father figure to Astro.

In the Pluto manga Dr. O is a widower, and has a daughter and grandson (Takashi).

There's a heartbreakingly touching scene (talk about making you CRY) where he attempts to save the life of a dogbot, and pauses on his way to his workshop to address the photo of his deceased wife, "Don't worry dear, I'll get him fixed up..." or something like that. Ochanomizu may have a big, funny nose, but he is (IMHO) the dearest character in Astro Boy beyond Astro himself.

O'Shay and Tenma aren't on good terms. The way the 1980 series is made seems like they have only met, and in the '03 series they are almost enemies.

I would say 'no'.

That was a sad part and I must admit, I felt REALLY bad for Ochanomizu in the manga, but it didn't make me cry or anything.

And in the manga, Tenma absolutely hated Ochanomizu, it's extremely doubtful that he would even want to talk to the other.

Heck, he probably wouldn't have approached anyone for parenting advice.

Yeah, he seems like one of those people who just does things their own way.
