I think the actual problem was that Androids' avatar looked very similar to that of AprilSeven's. There's even been a few times where I mistook Androids as April.

I mean of course, lots of people will have icons of the same characters. There's some inactive members here who also have Tenma icons, although none of which look exactly the same or nearly the same, whereas Androids did. (Both icons were also taken from the True Blue opening theme animation.)

So perhaps, impersonating another member, whether intentional or unintentional, could be a problem.

 One day it is one thing, a few days later, something completely different. I am not for making any restrictions, but it would make things easier if people made up their minds. I know I am too dull & boring, I have not changed my avatar for 3 or 4 years.

Yes, Androids did have an avatar much too similar to AprilSeven's, & not only that, but this is the third time I have had to deal with this. I just noticed an old message in my SENT folder dated sometime in November that also was about this.

I am so tired, I did not expect to spend so much time on the forum today.

I agree that the real problem in this case was the similarity between the avatars.

I also see where jeffbert is coming from when he refers the frequent changes, although personally I haven't been affected as I'm not good at all when it comes to remembering who had which avatar or signature and when, with a few exceptions. I definitely wouldn't be able to enforce such a rule even if there was one; but it doesn't matter since, as jeffbert said, we were not going to make restrictions.

Wow folks, just read the user's name. It's all huge and yellow.

What I find more important is a certain someone who has been warned not to post scans at least 3 times and still continues doing it. I even grew tired of reporting it.
I'm on Twitter.

if i'm reading the posts right,
1)its ok to change your avatar after a while say a few months or weeks (or years in jeffberts case) but a few days is ridiculous, its common sense.

2)to not make avatars too similiar,(why would you want to is beyond me) but there are those.I see the arguement in that yeah, avatars should be unique to the person who owns them but like Jerk said there are members who haven't been online in say in over a year and have either have the same or close to the similiar then there would be troubles there.

but i think we should consider when looking at similar avatars is to look at is the members active and not,if the case is that, we have one member with a Uran avatar who hasn't been active in a year and a member who's active and with the same avatar then we should let it flow but if the case is you have two active members then yes, there needs to be a difference. common sense makes things flow

speaking about inactive members don't their profiles take up space?

Back when I created many avatars, I would put the nickname below an image when it was chosen. We had new members who registered, posted a few times and then never came back. In those cases, I deleted the nicknames so the avatar could be used by someone else. I didn't when somebody stayed around for a significant amount of time. But my avatars were animated, so it would be impossible to create a different avatar that didn't look exactly the same. In the case of a former active member who has been very active at some point, I would be reluctant to let a new member use an identical avatar, but I suppose a similar one may be acceptable. We'll see if it happens. I don't remember any formerly active members using similar avatars.

Inactive members take disk space, but it's probably a small fraction of what the forum takes. I imagine the profile of the members who have posted in the past couldn't be deleted because the threads would be affected. The spammers who have been banned and whose posts have been deleted could be cleaned up, but the moderators can't do that. I suppose Mark could; anyway, he's the only one who is affected because he's the one paying, so this is not of public interest.

 I just realized that signatures containing long lines of text also wrap when viewed on skinny browsers. I usually use a 1100 pixel width browser so that my PIP does not cover any of it. I think it is fair to use at least a 1200 pixel width browser in judging the actual height. :p I feel so dumb!

I'm at 1280. Of course, it also depends of the character's width, so I'll reset my settings because I don't know what they should be. I'll use the default settings.

There are probably still quite a lot of people at 1024.

Edited: at 1024, text doesn't matter as much because at worst it will be wrapped, while images won't.

:hyo: I was trying to say that in these signatures with text below images, the text can wrap onto several lines depending on how wide the browser's window. This makes the signature's height greater than it would be with a wider window. The monitor's size does not necessarily come into play, here. I had not realized this until I received a PM that I viewed while my browser was quite narrow. :p

All suggestions are welcome :)

I just found out a thread like this already exists: http://www.astroboy-online.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3483
