I mean, I did just type a bunch of objectionable things, the very words themselves, but it's stuff like this that prevents kids from getting messed up.

I agree; my main intent was to prevent any further discussion of those things. One of the other mods also sees things your way. :D [/QUOTE]

Don't worry, man...I really didn't want to go into detail either, since I know there's kids here, a good deal of it would contain spoilers, and some of the stuff just bothers me way too much to want to talk about it yet.

In short...don't marry your step-brothers, don't manipulate people's heads for money, and don't kill people. Reading Ayako will punch your brain in the face.

And now I'm off to go make a thread about Swallowing the Earth in the General Discussion session.

reading about them makes you aware of the dangers ,just because you don't believe in God does not elimate the Devil in the great scheme of things if anything it doesn't help only progresses and allows the evil to grow, you cannot go along with life without hearing about stuff like that lets face it and if you are worried about the "psychological" part of this then it is foolish to go along with life not knowing thar there are no unpleasant aspects and the more that you understand and are aware the more likely you are to prepared for it. MW is another look into those uncitely facts of reality that there are those that are torn and horrible and cold blooded. it frightening, i agree but answer me this...why did Tezuka take the draw such morbid images and allowed them public? i agree also they for entertainments sake but we find that in many of his manga that there is something he wanted to be said in his art... what do you think?

@ Fauna,
I will look into Swallowing the Earth and other of Tezuka's works suggested ;)

Because with things such as Ayako, he was depicting reality. Those things that happened in Ayako? They happened in real life as a result of the second world war ending. He was also depicting that it is possible for humans to be more like monsters than human beings, such as Yuki in MW. These works were also intended for adults, and were allowed to be published, although I do imagine that they'll probably be harshly regulated now given the new laws in Tokyo, but those laws are very vague so, let's not bring that topic into this thread.

Ignorance of the world will get you nowhere. Some people cannot be blind to these things. That is what I believed that Tezuka was trying to show in those and other serious works.

If you want to try those works, fine, but don't come running back to us complaining about how much it tormented you. You're not ready, heck, even I am not ready even though I am a little more aware of the horrors the world tries to hide.

@Dr. Jerk: Aren't those rules only going to apply to anime? Ah, anyway, I don't think that bill is going to be as destructive as we all think; it was initially designed to stop lolicon anime and gorn from being played on TV.

@Astronomical: I was going to post something about how you being quite religious might cause certain elements in MW to hit you hard, but I got up and flipped through my copy. I happened to find a page where a woman graphically dies. No, I'm not going to say how.

Do me a favour and wait a year or two before you even consider opening that book. It's not a matter of acknowledging humanity's sins through Tezuka's art, it's a matter of you simply being too bloody young for me to allow you to read it. I was about your age when I decided to watch two of Ralph Bakshi's adult animated movies, which I thought would assert how mature I was, but asserted that I was not mentally-prepared to witness certain adult-only situations.

Or fine, read it and stick it to the lot of us, go ahead. But if you're that badly disturbed that you're losing sleep, drop me a PM and I'll try to calm you down.

The bill is also going to affect manga, apparently.

@Fauna & Jerk,
i am tied between to read or not to read but i don't know if i'll get the books or not,if i don't get the books,i'll ask my parents about the Swallowing the earth and or Apollo's song, but honestly i don't think a book could make you that scared, at least in my exsperince  what happened was that your mind playing tricks (becuase in the middle of the night your brain likes input so it will do things like that) what i do is find other things to tire me out and think out ;)

did you know it got in to an anime back in 08? who's seen it?

Books can scare people, or "mentally scar" people, and otherwise be traumatizing. If you don't believe that the books can do that to someone, then I definitely do not think you should be reading Ayako or MW.

And they never got an anime series. If they did, I still would not recommend that you read/watch them.

Well, I give. I still stand by the fact that certain imagery and themes are too graphic or morbid for you. You can get away with reading MW at this moment, maybe. Ayako, however...wait.

Ah, you're thinking of the live-action movie...I didn't see it, but a friend named Maiyeng did. Apparently it was really bad, for the following:

1. Father Garai is played by a tall guy with long hair, instead of a burly guy
2. Yuki and Garai's relationship is toned down to mild insinuation
3. A female reporter is thrown in to hang out with the guys
4. All sorts of crap is modernized and changed

It wasn't as disturbing as the book, but just dumb. There's an American remake supposedly on the way, but I hope it's actually made to resemble the manga, since I estimate Movie MW x Hollywood = feet

It was bad, man. Now Scary Manga Bad, but Stupid Movie Dragonball Evolution Bad. And unless the God of Directors remakes it out of gold and manga references, there's no way for the remake to go but Uwe Boll. Yuki and Garai having a relationship was a big, important thing in the manga (especially in Father Garai's panicked morality clashes), but they simply made the two friends in the movie. And I know that would be erased even further in the American version, because...y'know, America.
