Would Astro Boy have been better as a girl?

Hmmmm I dont know. The fact he has a ladies voice is enough girliness for me. Photar becomes a girl in the new series and that is heartbreaking (although as mentioned he's not exactly the most masculine of robots anyway).

Atom was based on the image of a young child. Young boys naturally have girlish-sounding voices.

I wish that I made this thread I too thought of many what ifs but didn't think much of it but Astro as a girl meant that Tobio would have been a girl unless Tenma decided to have a wild hair and made boy Tobio into a girl robot that must be a huge shock to his system

Also what Jerk said is true, prepubesent boys tend to have girly voices that is until puberty then as my mom so humurously put it "they go from a chirpy violin to a low chello" Tenma being a prime example of that , mostly but not all

Epsilon and Photar ARE the same character, it's just they gave Epsilon a gender switch for the 2003 series.

That makes no sense whatsoever. It wouldn't really matter if he had a daughter or not. In fact if Tezuka made Atom into a girl, Tenma would probably still be 'her' dad.

Tobio took most of his mother's genes than Tenma's, so in the end, Atom still has some girlish traits.

Tezuka played with gender in most of his stories, and Astro Boy is no exception. He's a bit similar to Princess Knight in that he's got both boy and girl attributes.

And in reality each gender shares a similarity with other for instance boy and girls both produce testosterone (which is a more masculine hormone) but each uses it for most of the same purposes but not all
