GREATEST ROBOT -- 1964 manga

Postby jeffbert » 14 years ago

This is about one of the so-called "ATOM MANGA IN FULL COLOR" sets.

GREATEST ROBOT is the 2nd one of the 1964 comics; these all came in the UNIT 5 set. there are 324 pages counting the front & back covers (both sides) & the lyrics pages. As noted in the other thread (ATOM MANGA IN FULL COLOR!), the frames are numbered; I added all last pages' frame #s to get 997 frames for this story. :D

If we merely take the nearest guess, figuring on 6 frames / page here, & 12 in DH though there are exceptions, 324 - 24 for the front & backs + 2 for the back of vol 6, there should be 149 pages if these were in the 4 frames by 3 format. Though I think there were about 175 pages in the D H version; There were some notable revisions, though. I noticed that these had additional material though occasionally saw some in the DH that was lacking here. As an example, the last frame has Pluto lunging at Bora; both horns are lying on the ground. I think Tenma had a bigger role in this version, but need to verify that. Here, Dr. Tenma not only increases Atom's power, but also repairs him after Pluto & Epsilon retrieve him from the silt.

:D

It appears that the large sized book contains little more than highlights, but I need somebody to actually read the page on Amazon.co.jp to be sure:

This one is 7/24/2010, but I suppose they should be about the same in that regard.

Who would have thought there was such a difference between the DH and original version? xP I wonder why they put it into a different format...

I think the DH is a direct translation of one of the later collections; as I understand it, there are quite a few of them. I assume that the later ones were edited heavily when compared to the earlier ones, but as I said, there seem to be a few earliest versions of stories that were shorter in some sequences anyway, than the later ones.

Wow - how many versions are there of the original, do you know? (I guess since it's so old, it's bound to have many printings, but still, who knew?)

Sorry, but I do not know. I do know that Tezuka habitually revised and redrew or rewrote many of his stories.
