All the firepower and horsepower in the world can't keep you from being lonely. All the earnest effort to do good works regularly gets dismissed by insensitive and hard-hearted people. But Astro carries on, and goes forward. And seeing him do that makes it a little easier for me to do that when I have to!
This is so true!!! It is what is moving in him.
In fact, logically, I don't find him to be the most interesting character by himself. I think great characters in fiction usually should have a few shortcomings, but Astro is so logical, so nice towards everybody and so serious about what he has to do that even when he breaks a rule, he has a very good reason to do so, so much that it's hard to fault him.
However, he reaches something really deep down inside me... for the reasons you gave. He's not a human being, but he displays a great deal of humanity.
I also like Tintin, and I find a lot of similarities between Astro and Tintin for these reasons (but I had already written about it
here, and in fact reunited both worlds
here for the Photoshop thread years ago).
