It's seriously just a complicated line of Merdithical programming.
This 'Astro' could learn a language just by listening to some people talk it for 10 minutes ^.^
Audio input, visual input, additions, receptor points, touch-sensitive, and he could be programmed with 'emotions', such that he can collect data and analise it to check weather or not his recent memorizations think this is nice, mean, or sad. (Or annoying, or stupid. Really the possibilities are endless.)
He would need a huge memory bank.
I'll shut up now. X3

honistly the robot body is easy, it is the computer control system and power supply that are the hard parts.

I'm thinking more of a memory bank problem. It could be connected to a centeral server and have wireless messages sent back and fourth, but then he would never be able to stray very far and if the server breaks down we'd all be screwed.
MERDITHICAL PROGRAMMING. IT'S NOT THAT HARD. I MADE IT UP
