I only replied because I'd heard the real reason why Tezuka Productions was afraid of Leo in America. Nobody's consciously trying to make you feel dumb.

Well it sure as heck feels like it, and on TiE too. I posted this thread there as well.

Like I said over in TiE, things have changed. And whether Tezuka Productions notices this change or decides to risk things, well that's up to them. I do admit that I half-forgotten about the native Africans when writing this thread. Don't blame me, I don't keep myself all that informed with Leo due to lack of full attention. But I still think my other points are viable.

Though if they do go with a similar foreword used in the AB manga, and the Looney Tunes Golden Collection DVDs, I'm sure things would be fine even though Africans obviously have more of a role in Leo than AB.

Perhaps I should say, if I wonder aloud whether or not this is true.

Granted, JUNGLE EMPEROR does take place in Africa; yet, AB has a few instances of Africans being depicted in a stereotypical tribesman way.

1. In 14 Artificial Sun (12) the islanders are blacks
2. In the manga & color versions of Sea Serpent Island, the men all have dark skin & curly hair.
3. In 26 Atlas (26 Don Tay's Infernal Machine) , Dr. Ram (Don Tay) has the appearance of an African, though he is very sophisticated, in contrast to those in Sea Serpent
4. In LITTLE ELEPHANT PULA (JIMBO THE GREAT), Dr. Fooler has placed some robot cannibals in the mix with the robot animals.
5. In scenes of the Science conventions, among others we might not expect to see in the gallery seats, there is a black guy with a bone in his hair (at least in 119 Flying Lens (102 Planet 13).
6. In 185 Star of Africa, there are many African tribesmen, who attack the doctors who were bringing the serum that could have prevented many deaths.

I looked through my notes for J E Leo 1st & 2nd anime series, & found very few references to natives; though, as I was mainly noting themes also found in AB, I may have omitted noting some.

Anyway, do we know that there was no objection raised to the Atom manga because of the depictions of blacks?

It could simply be an assumption on the part of those who may object to such depictions that Leo is full of them.

Just thinking aloud. I myself would welcome a definitive reason.

It's probably because there aren't too many black people in many chapters of the AB manga, or that many of them do not get a more apparent role when compared to Jungle Emperor.

Well it would kinda piss me off if a someone would bring it out in english Because i just recieved the last volume that i still had to get from the German manga.

i first bought volume 2 and 3 used for a good price but volume 1 was like 50 EUR and finaly 2 weeks ago a used copy appared on Amazon.DE from only 7,76 i quickly bought it it aparently was shipped by amazon itself but it did had some minor scratches.

But if it will be released i will probably end up buying it and seeing the prices for the French and German manga go up it would be good thing maybe that Vertical will release it after Princess knight that would be the perfect step to make if only Dark horse where still releasing Tezuka manga it would most likely alreday have been released i know what they always pout in the introduction pages about racism but come on.

If I can play the angry puppet here, I think the reason why it hasn't been localized for America is the publishers' belief that there is a lack of interest in it. Sure, people on here and TiE and any AB fans would like it. Hell, people who saw the original series would be all over it.

But honestly, people who know nothing of Kimba would look at it and say "LOL someone copied Lion King in manga LOL where's Naruto?"

You're a bit right in some ways. I once saw someone comment on a Kimba video on youtube, going on "Why did Japan copy Lion King? Stop copying us, Japan." Ultimately that guy was dumb anyway.

Yeha that's true they only care about the new stuff but that doesn't mean it coudn't be released many obsecure Tezuka titles have been released in the US and will still come out (the Book of Human Insects) and Kimba is etleast a bit known so that doesn't realy say much.

But the fact that many things that are popular in Japan these days aren't in the US makes this matter even more idiotic i mean Naruto and bleach are so popular in the US while it isn't even in the top 10 of Japan and the real deal in Japan One Piece (my favourite series) has trubble making a profit in the US it just isn't right.

Another good example truly is Cowboy Bebop is flopped in Japan and it is so popular in the us that they even going to make a american live action movie based on 26 episodes stand alone story's.

Kimba would be one of the best Tezuka sellers; popularity definitely doesn't have to do with its lack of localization.
