Anybody feel the earthquake?

Postby AprilSeven » 14 years ago

I'm about 60 miles north of NYC and my computer desk and chair were being pulled-and-pushed back and forth in a sideways motion! It was VERY CREEPY!!

Our entire building evacuated - and outside everyone pulled out their smartphones to see where the epicenter was . . . Mineral Virgina.

I think SpaceCookie and Jeffbert would be closer to it -hope they're both okay!

Anyone up there in Canada feel it??

I've been hearing about it from everyone April.

I obviously didn't feel it since I'm not on the East Coast of the US. I'm closer to Las Vegas where there was all kinds of nuclear tests, and I'm closer to California which is famous for Earthquakes.

Yet for some reason, I don't get an Earthquake. It's strange.

EDIT: AB03, To my knowledge it wasn't anything that killed a whole lot of people. It's just something that was felt throughout the entire eastern part of the US. At least from what I've read.

I only found out about the earthquake today because people all over Tumblr were talking about it. From what I gather, it was a really mild shake that scared people at the worst. I live on a large part of Canada that just can't feel earthquakes at all, called the Canadian Shield, so I've never experienced one.

My friend in Virginia made this:

An earthquake? Sorry, I must have bumped into the table

Obviously, I didn't feel anything here in Europe :p Didn't even made to the news apparently  Next time someone bumps into a table at the Europe Earthquake Detection Center we will have it on first page: a tremendous 0.001 earthquake shook Europe :p

Well I was at work when the woman I share an office with asked if I felt the room shaking. At first I felt nothing, then when I sat on her side of the room I could feel the whole building shake. Everyone else on my floor headed for the stairs to get out of the building. I figured if there was really an earthquake happening, it did not really matter where you headed, if an earthquake was gonna get you, especially since it ended as suddenly as it happened. So I stayed in my office and tried to find out exactly wha' happen'! While there was something like a 5.8 (later upgraded to as much as a 6.0) quake in Virginia because the east coast of the U.S. is on bedrock (as per the description given by geologists on the "telly") that is the reason it was felt as far away as New York. Later when I spoke to my brother who was in the subway at the time of the earthquake, he said he felt nothing. So I guess you can say we were pretty lucky.
I  :astro: :)
