That's why they all use Mac. If they have so much money to spend on making robots of mass destruction , they would want to have at least few screw ups.

But yeah, that would be funny.

I think there would have to be some sort of system unique to robots ,possibly offshoots like iOS or Windows Phone 7 . They are probably closed source and with their complexity are most likely hard to hack into and even harder to modify it without the correct tools. The common process of jailbreaking a device would extend into the AI robot realm where robots hacked could ignore the 3 laws and slaughter whomever and however they please like humans like Pluto, wipe a robot and make him evil like what happened to Astro and or just plain mess them up/ enhance them.

Someone should jailbreak Astro Boy's three laws and make him exactly like a human being or make him emulate Pac-Man. :d evil:

I think it is as funny as hell that - compared to the 60's, or even the 80's when "PC's" were in their infancy - we really do have some idea of what is going on inside of Astro!

I personally think Tenma and his fellow robotics engineers would NOT use anything as accessible as Windows, Linux, or Mac OS for a dangerous and sentient robot like Astro. It would seem far too risky (someone WOULD jailbreak him!). I'd bet he's running TOTALLY unique, proprietary code. That would certainly have it's drawbacks, but would also offer benefits.

Along that thought, however . . . I guess that means if you can infect Astro with some kind of virus, you could do the same with Atlas, Cobalt and Uran (hmmm wonder about his bot parents?) -- oh, and Niki, if she had survived.

But that is if those OS's even are used by the alternate 21st Century society. The way their society progressed, i can truly see them having operating systems that are far more advanced but in the same breath not Windows. You never see a computer get a BSOD in the manga, though at the time it was drawn and written, there was even such a thing as Windows and Bill himself was just born in the mid 50's.

The only thing I see is that their world is a parallel universe where a ton of crap that never happened in our world occurred there. I'm assuming the Hellenistic world with its high advancements carried on its success to the modern world and progressed in technology. I guess the main reason why there are the same countries as our has is that it is still similar and had similar developments that happened to occur as fast if not faster than the mating and birth of bunnies . Otherwise , how could they have AI robots , hover cars, common space flights and basically everything we have dreamed about since we were young? It strongly reminds me of that nanobot society in Futurama that evolved in a very high paced rate, except everything just happened earlier probably by a century or five.

I think the universe we live in could have had many of the things Tezuka imagined, but the overarching drive of the world steered away from focusing on technology that was fueled by our imagination, and a desire to create an open and peaceful planet.

Instead we're "stuck" using antiquated and/or dangerous fuel sources, and too much is tied to a corrupted political environment. We've got to get ourselves back on track in order to resume building a future world similar to Astro's.

That said, I also believe that had Tezuka lived until the present, he might well have re-engineered Astro to be more organic (the idea the Tenma cloned Toby's memories from DNA in the 09 movie is "out there" but along what seems desirable). Astro might well have been a "super clone" with self-healing and "super human" powers instead of a metal machine boy. With cloning, you can always fix a body, as you can with a robot.

But back to your comment about the OS issue . . . remember in the 80's anime when Atlas came online how Astro became "stoonod" and his eyes pulsed red? It was kind of a RSoD!!! When I saw that, I laughed out loud and said, "Oh uh!!! Tezuka's 'blue screen equivalent!'" Point is, he was prescient enough to anticipate that bots would have "something" controlling them that could be fallible. I don't think he felt that back in the 50's/60's.

One thing that would be cool to find out . . . what computer (if any) did Dr. Tezuka use? Windows or Mac (or maybe BOTH, like moi?)

I can get at the point you are trying to make , but the main problem I have with it is is this : let's say out of a miracle some guy comes along in the 50's and happens to create a robot with his own mind ignoring and advancing upon the technology .Even if that scientist happened to get an entire robot arms race to begin, robots would in themselves would not progress like in the anime and in fact with 2000-esque robots in the 70's, we would only end up with robots with technology from 2030-2040 by now with an ENIAC-esque AI robot.

A future world like in the world of Astro's time won't be possible for another century at least considering the loss of so much knowledge from Alexandria that happened to virtually have the prototypes for the steam engine ,cars and who know what else. It's been found that cars owned by the elite were primitive ancestors of the Model T ,buried with the family themselves while the Egyptians mastered plane design. Had that library been fiercely protected, we would still have that knowledge and be more advanced than now. If the tech was needed for anything practical at the time.

In the Robio story , Robiette's father mentions his grandfather being a robot creator though wearing traditional Japanese clothing. By this , it would not be strange for the Japanese themselves to have made leaps and bounds for mechanical beings since they've been doing it for centuries with wood.

While the top is a Hellenistic view of events , the only surefire way for transportation of West's advanced tech would've been through contact which I estimate to be around 900-1300 AD through the Chinese which began contact in the 200's AD. And in a world where you eliminate the Mongols as a threat, no radical Middle East and a stable China where their advances and the West's converge and eventually spur the enlightenment era in the 1500's and colonization of the new world, which breaks away from Britain as our timeline suggests and a sling of revolutions brings democracy in the West, dividing the Western World among borders only seen before Rome's time in relative peace.

This is the world Astro lives in I believe.

I think a technorganic robot like the Terminator would be the reboot of Astro Boy.

I only seen the first two eps. of Astro Boy 1980, nothing else. Good example though.

Wow - Bigdog you are my new hero!! I honestly never put ideas like that together, but you did, and I've gotta say . . . it strikes a chord with me. Thank you!!

I used to completely dismiss out of hand the idea of multiple universes and the "string theory," but not anymore. Perhaps what we consider "imagination" is actually glimpses of what exists in another version of this reality. If so, I think Dr. Tezuka was DEFINITELY "plugged in!"

I love reading about physics and science.

I was inspired by the book Romanitas in my formulation of the world of Astro in the way that an elongated Hellenistic civilization which upheld logic and traditional values with only toleration of Christianity and not embraced as a state religion and with no sudden domination of one religion, there could be no possible power grabs thus would not affect .

From there on , it could be inferred that from their sparse connections with Sina that it would get even more connected and thus would act like a Proto-America in a sense that it would meddle in other's affairs such as support the Tang Dynasty over the traditionalist regimes and expand to some point. But to get roughly what our world's country makeup is, there will have to be a rise in Christianity as well in the European countries independent of the state as they separate from the Empire. But unlike the separation that came from a steady collapse , this could be a more gradual peaceful one with little bloodshed until the Roman Empire becomes a confederation where the advanced ideas get even more polished and advanced upon and in time, would resemble our world except in one fact.

They are far more advanced than we are.

History could have happened roughly the same way , but since said Christendom would not take hold as it did in our world ,the only thing standing in the way are the old theories which could have been circumvented while colonization of the New World for the population outburst. In short, this would lead to our world today ,except with robots and high tech stuff.
