I wished Astro would just turn his back on humanity and enjoyed the fallout of their further suffering to make it clear he is the only reason why they live.

And someone would have to stand up for him and ask why he has to save them at all. And for the record, where the bloody hell are the other superheroes in this universe? IT always seems that the people do absolutely nothing to contribute ACTIVELY in fighting mechanical/superhuman evil and are always on the sidelines like a bunch of *****es.And calling them *****es is a disgrace to all of canine kind considering one of the best characters in Astro Boy was the Cyborg Lassie that had serious skills along with the other cyborg fidos in that Moon story with the Russians.

It is especially a disgrace to the corgie on Cowboy Bebop, those two stupid dogs...you get the point.

Yeah, didn't I get you there? You were all probably thinking I was about to talk about women weren't you guys?

A long story story short, humans haven't fought evil machines as actively as they should have with humans alongside their mechanical counterparts. Pretty shocking as it promotes human/robot equality(actually a human equality allegory) while but humans don't do anything besides being a side character and in occasion repair Astro.

Transformers has more on robot /human equality than Astro Boy , especially in Energon where Kicker fights the Decepticons in a suit while Daniel becomes a Headmaster.

Somehow in Metro City there's only Astro, and it hasn't occurred to the general population that they should do anything to help. Although I guess in that universe humans are naturally not as brave as the robots. There's the robots that assist Astro, and I believe that every one of the 'Greatest Robots', with some possible exceptions are all heroes in a way.

I agree with you April. Astro would probably try to save as many people as he could. And all the stuff that goes into programming would likely affect his decision making process as well. But..BECAUSE kokorro is designed to make him think in some ways like a human..I imagined he'd never be the same again after such an event. Even if he managed to save half the populace somehow..there would still be all those he didn't. And people being people...would likely blame him for it all. They'd ask "Why didn't you move faster?!" "What about my momma?!" "What about my daddy?!" "Where were you THIS thing happened?!"...And then the final blow I think would just crush his poor little heart to pieces. "Astro! You FAILED US!"

Unfortunately, its kinda hard not to blame Astro if you're loved ones died, even though others are saved. Even if we talk about this on a forum about the greater good, saving and stuff, personally I believe that in the real world maybe our responses would be a little different - after all, as stated earlier, what we say we do and what we really do is kind of different. Sadly, the truth is if you're, say, a 15-year-old boy who loves his sister dearly, and the sister ends up being killed while you survive, you'll blame: a) the villains of course, and b) Astro in a way since he could've saved the sister and instead he saved somebody else. We're only human, and we want our loved ones to survive most of all.

That is why I am writing a spinoff in that direction, without excising the robots' involvement of course. It's one of those hugest plot holes in the anime.

I might have blamed Astro if they could not have been saved, but then I'd blame the person responsible for it.

There was a B&W adventure that featured something along these lines, 187 Baily's Legend (-- --) lent the title character's name to one of the CHRONICLES' adventures, though there were quite a few differences.

HERE ARE THE SYNOPSIS (WHITE) & MY NOTES (COLORED) for #187
Atom and Uran visit the Robot Museum. There, Atom finds an empty showcase labeled "Baily." As the name sounds familiar to Atom, he sets out to investigate it and finds that Baily is an important benefactor to him.

See chronicles
Atom’s life before Ochanomizu:
Denied admission to various attractions because he is a robot, Atom becomes violent and smashes several rides. But seeing a child In danger, he rescues him. However, the humans then rush to comfort the boy, while ignoring the heroic little robot. Bailey then tries to admonish them for their thanklessness, but they stoned him, the humans expecting no less selfless heroism from any robot.

Compare with 04/03 “saving classmates” as after Atom saves them, the parents are too busy comforting their sons, to even thank anyone, much less the heroic robot!

BTW, the 2nd B&W of BLACK LUX

77 Cape Town Lullabye (68 Hooligan Whodunit)
had an elephant stampede in Cape Town, but I do not recall any thanklessness in it.
