PROPHETS OF SCIENCE FICTION on Science channel

Postby jeffbert » 13 years ago

This series should be very entertaining and interesting. Though some of the content has already been covered by earlier programs, I enjoy a fresh perspective.

Mary Shelley is 1st on the list, & 11/09 at 10pm;

:lol: This series has exceeded my expectations! I knew next to nothing about PK Dick, & not much more about AC Clarke; I wish I had time to read their stuff, but the book comes 1st. Unfortunately, the science channel is withholding subsequent segments until February, & thus far, only the most recognizable authors have been listed on the series' web page, I hope there will be many more! :p

Other than the episode on Mary Shelly, I have not seen much coverage of other than the science itself, though the social elements may actually be more important. I read HG Wells' THE WORLD SET FREE some time ago, & though the segment on him noted it, it said nothing about the euthanasia that Wells apparently advocated for the physically or mentally deficient ones in it; though, this may have been an element in his THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME, either way, it should have been mentioned in respect to the euthanasia movement, though it was far from the main element.
