So I was able to access Teletoon Retro Francais today! It ran at 4 PM in my timezone, the episode Un Amour Robot (otherwise known as Astro's First Love) and I can confirm that the copies they show on TV are really washed out. During the part when Astro has a brown wig on, his lightened highlights looked like a murky green! As well, it was cropped to be widescreen, which mostly meant putting black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

It's not bad to see this on TV, though. Let's hope Teletoon Retro also has Nicky Larson or Dan et Danni...

Oh cool! :w00t: I'm happy for you! :D Can you understand the dialogues?

Don't miss "Save the Carolina 3/Piège dans le cosmos" (7 episodes later). You'll get a good laugh!!!

Amazon aren't the ones selling copies on their site since they're out of stock.

My copy from Archambault has just been cancelled, they didn't actually have any copies, so I registered on their site for nothing. :shifty:

@Diehard - It's the American 1980's version, not the Canadian (and F-Man is correct, Amazon isn't selling them directly, but they have posted resources you can purchase it from. And yes, they've got it described as "2003" with an image of the 1980's set!)

I gotta say quickly that the Canadian version of the 1980 series was never released on any professonal studio DVD set. I'm unable to confirm this, but there may have been some VHS tapes released back in 1985/6, but even then, those would be extremely difficult to find. Not to mention that playing back a tape like that would look as bad as the current French broadcast, and at worst leave the dub audio impossible to hear. I have a Dirty Pair: Project Eden tape from 1991 that was used so much, all the characters sound like they're in a vacuum.

So all I can do these days is keep hunting for people who own the remaining 47 Canadian episodes and can or need help in converting them to digital...

Here is something curious. While visiting YouTube, I came across the "Canadian Astroboy" and lo and behold there were episodes in French with the same production credits as the Canadian English dub. The interesting thing about this is that the episodes, which include "The Birth of Astro, le Petit Robot", "Robot Circus" and "Astro contre (vs.) Atlas" (Eng. title, "Atlas Lives Again") do not appear to begin with the same opening as the Canadian English dub. Although the French dub of the Canadian opening (the one about Futuropolis and "the legend of Astroboy".) does appear in two versions: one with a group of children singing the theme song in French and one where a solo male voice is heard singing the theme song. The videos are listed as "Quebecoise" and seem to have been originally broadcast not in only in French Canada, but in France as well. Curiouser and curiouser!

I  :astro: :)
