In the Netherlands most people don't even know what anime is that's even more annoying only like 30,000 or so yes sure they saw DBZ and stuff when it was on tv here but that's 8 years ago as from then we stardet to get less and less until the only thing that was left was pokemon... and that trash is still on it but nothing else realy ocasionally we get the kiddy series like Izuma eleven,dinosaur king and Bakuchan and stuff but even that get's cancled after a while.

German TV is awesome compared to the crap we get here i don't have my satlite anymore connected where i could watch all German channels but i would like to set it on again because there's lot's of Anime on German TV etleast.

Germany has a buttload of anime, and it's uncut too. The best aspect of their dubs for Digimon are that they localized all of the music, all of the OST in their native tongue. Rarely does it ever happen in the States where it's either discarded or replaced with generic techno or rock music.

In America, we used to get a ton of anime through the 90's and the first 5-7 years of the 21st Century mainly because of Toonami and Fox Kids, KidsWB and Disney. Then Fox Kids shut down and their anime all except Digimon were taken off the air only appearing on Toon Disney in 2006. WB had Pokemon and Yugioh and some other anime series but they're either cancelled or moved onto CN. Disney ,getting Saban's library only continued Digimon and within a few years brought over all of the films but then lost the rights... Toonami, as Cartoon Network changed leadership, steadily lost all of their anime until it was pushed to Jetstream and lost most of it as well as their reputation to anime distributors who split ways to Nick and Disney or moved a few anime series to Adult Swim.

So, aside from the kiddie anime series , Nickelodeon and Adult Swim, we can only get anime on DVD ,online through streaming sites or bootleg. While we're not cut off, some who do not have the internet would be in the dark, but I doubt that. Nonetheless, we also have companies making their own versions of anime like avatar and Thundercats, so we don't have much to complain about.

Certainly doesn't help that American networks ,sans cable ,got rid of all their Saturday Morning programming practically speaking. If they brought them back in a major way ,then I could see potential avenues for more anime .

yeah, we have a couple of anime channels and sometimes Adult Swim plays anime but for the most part it's a pretty underground thing in America. Partially 'cause average Americans can't get past the animation age ghetto. I doubt that issue exists in Germany.

All we get here in Australia is a 'Super Happy Anime Hour', aired once a week on the lamest television channel of all (it is an analogue broadcast, unlike the other channels which are all digital, so the quality isn't that good either). :shifty:

At first glance Astro looks like a stupid little-kid superhero generic anime. And because that's what people are used to, I guess they pass it off without looking into it. Like Kimba, there are good episodes and dorky episodes. But mostly people have never heard of Astro Boy. At my school there's an anime club and I went to one of the meetings. It was full of Naruto and Bleach people. Come ON.

I think part of the problem is that most modern otaku aren't familiar with Tezuka nowadays. I'm sure there's a good hand of people off-line in teh community who know of his presence, but let's face it; Tezuka isn't put up on a pedestal the way anime like Naruto or Bleach are.

I do think it's kind of sad, especially since having done some research myself, I think Tezuka has made at least one thing that everyone will like or become invested with.

At the same time though, I'm actually kind of glad that Astro isn't as hyped up in North America. Don't get me wrong, I do wish that more people knew about Astro Boy so I could at least talk to them about it. BUt at the same time, I fear that with overhyped popularity for Astro would come three things;

.Crazy/Annoying fans
.Over exposure
.Cynics/Detractors (of the snobby kind)

hi- i like NARUTO- BUT I AM a fan of robots and especially ones like ASTROBOY who cares and loves both humans and robots! NOT sure i would call any episode of ASTROBOY(dorky) but that is probably cause i love ASTROBOY and more important the people that come here! HOW can the SIMPSONS be popular but ASTROBOY is not? I have a sense of humor- but i want my humor to make sense. I also love KIMBA - THE WHITE LION . I wish they would bring back saturday morning cartoons- rather watch a clean cartoon like ASTROBOY then live action shows. MAYBE MY MIND IS TOO FEMININE- BUT WHY do shows like the 2003 ASTROBOY series last 4 weeks on CARTOON NETWORK but shows not as good like BILLY and MANDY- JOHNNY BRAVO- CAMP LAZLO- ED-EDD-EDDY stay on for years? MAYBE i am A LITTLE BIT- different - kinda weird but i love ASTROBOY- KIMBA-UNICO- and if that makes me weird then i am- but i care and i pray everyone the very best possible- saved/safe/wondrous future filled with unlimited potential for happiness always!

It is sad how there are so much anime fans, even in the West, but most of them don't care or even know the [I]first/I] anime of all time...Astro Boy.

People are often credited with starting things...BUT WHERE IS OSAMU TEZUKA!?!?!?!?

oh, and horrible fan fiction. Don't forget the horrible HORRIBLE fanfiction. Look at the stuff people write for Death Note some time. On second thought... don't :eek:
